first speakers. I took the opportunity to tell the women about our organization and its 67-year history. I wished the members of UNWL much success in their endeavors, and presented them with a monetary gift from our organization. The atmosphere during the get-together was very congenial and mani fested the heartwarming hospitality, so in herent in the Ukrainian character. the World Forum of Ukrainians were pub lished in Ukrainian in the November 1992 issue of OUR LIFE, and in English in the December issue. In the Spring of 1991 UNWLA organized a reception for President of UNWL of Ukra ine, Atena Pashko. The following year we had a similar meeting with the Co-President of the Women’s Assembly of Ukraine, Maria Drach. Reception for President of UNWL of Ukraine, Atena Pashko at UNWLA Headquarters. Meeting with members of the Women’s Council at the Taras Shevchenko Museum. On Thursday, August 27th the Women’s Council had a very pleasant reception for me at the Taras Shevchenko Museum. Actually this was a meeting of different women’s or ganizations, where the subject of discussion was the cooperation between the groups and the uniting of all women’s organizations into one National Council of Women of Ukraine. Attending were Maria Drach, Co-President of the Women’s Council, who was also the hostess for the meeting. People’s Deputy Larysa Skoryk, presidents and members of such organizations as Mothers of Soldiers, Maria Oranta Sisterhood of Ukrainian Ortho dox Churches and the Association to Protect Families with Many Children. UNWL did not send representatives. It was decided to con tinue the efforts to create a National Council of Women of Ukraine and to try to get UNWL of Ukraine to join. I offered greetings from UNWLA and wished them success in achiev ing their goal. I had interviews with correspondents of Ukrainian radio’ in Kiev, Radio Liberty from Munich, Radio Free Europe from New York, the newspaper Visti z Ukrainy and others. My impressions and reflections concerning Meeting with Co-President of the Women’s As sembly of Ukraine, Maria Drach at the UNWLA Headquarters. In retrospect, the events of the past three years were of historic significance that come once in a lifetime. Because I was lucky to be the President of UNWLA during that time, I was the chosen individual who had center stage view and the opportunity to take part in these remarkable events. The fact that I was invited shows that our organization is recognized and has the respect of the American and Ukrainian govern ments. Without doubt, the events described above had an impact on and continue to in 30 www.unwla.org
