It was decided to hire a new accountant, Steven Kacharij. The president reported that on November 19, 20 and 21, 1988 she at tended the annual meeting of the National Board of WFUWO in Toronto, Canada. Also present as delegates from UNWLA were I wanna Rozankowsky and Maria Tomorug. Iwanna Rozankowsky is the president of the WFUWO’s By-Laws Committee. A panel entitled “ Public relations of WFUWO” was held during the meeting, pre pared by the public relations chair of WFUWO, Lidia Hladky. Iryna Kurowyckyj, member at large of UNWLA’s Executive Board and Olena Prociuk, vice president of WFUWO took part in the panel. Also the chair of cul tural affairs of WFUWO, Natalia Danylenko, showed slides in a presentation entitled “The destruction of memorials in Ukraine under Polish rule.” During the meeting it was an nounced that the president of UNWLA be comes a member of the Presidium of the Secretariat of the World Congress of Free Ukrainians, as a representative from WFUWO. From November 23-27, 1988 the WCFU held its V Congress in Toronto. UNWLA’s delegates were: Lidia Hladky, Iryna Kuro wyckyj and Maria Tomorug. Ulana Lubovych represented OUR LIFE. Maria Savchak re presented the WFUWO, as did Iwanna Ro zankowsky, as a member of the Plenary Secretariat. At the January 17,1989 Executive Board meeting the following individuals were con firmed as members of the By-Laws Commit tee: Iwanna Rozankowsky as chairman: mem bers — Dr. Iwanna Ratych and Roma Shuhan from the Executive Board, as well as Olha Levycky (branch 13, NY) and Myroslava Wanio (branch 18, Passaic, NJ). Iryna Czaj- kowskyj was confirmed to head the Publica tion committee for the XXII Convention. It was decided to open the scholarly/his torical literary competition sponsored by the Lesia and Petro Kowaliw Fund, with a dead line of December 31,1990. Natalia Hewko, from the Detroit region, was confirmed to head the Convention com mittee of the XXII Convention at the Febru ary 25, 1989 Executive Board meeting. Maria Tomorug who attended the first meeting of the Convention Committee in Detroit said that Hotel Radisson Plaza was best suited for the Convention The Executive Board held meetings on March 8, 29, April 17 and May 3, 1989 at which various matters concerning the organ ization were discussed. With some corrections in the Ukrainian text, it was decided to publish the brochure “The History of UNWLA” with a run of 5,000 copies. It was also planned to publish another edition of embroidery designs. The Executive Board asked branch 4 to make preparations for the third conference "Ukrainian Woman in Two Worlds” scheduled for Fall 1990. The main objective of the Con ference will be to bring new members into the organization. Luba Sira will head the committee in charge of preparing the con ference. The program committee will be chaired by Oka Hrycak. The conference of the presidents of Regional Councils was held on May 20 — 21, 1989. The first meeting of the Nominating Committee for UNWLA’s XXII Convention was held. It was chaired by Tetiana Rishko, pres ident of the New Jersey Regional Council. Lida Kramarchuk (branch 18) and Maria Motyl (branch 1) were elected by the National Board to the Committee. UNWLA’s president Maria Savchak said that the future of the organization depends on the Regional Councils and the work that they do in general, as well as in individual committees. The editor of OUR LIFE Ulana Lubovych described the difficulty in finding a qualified person with a good knowledge of the Ukrain ian language, willing to work with the maga zine. Perhaps, she said, with the influx of the new immigration from Ukraine, someone could be found. In the next five meetings, the Executive Board took the following matters under con sideration: preparations for the Convention; the Convention commemorative book; plan ned conferences on cultural and art themes; of the organizations; commendations for deserving branches; agenda for the next meeting of the National Board; OUR LIFE and the resignation of the editor. It was decided at one meeting to expand the Medi cal Aid Fund for Children and Youth, to include medical aid for children and youth in Ukraine, to help those who suffered from the nuclear accident in Chernobil. Also, the Wel fare Fund was expanded to include the Aid Fund to Ukraine. The National Board met on November 11 and 12, 1989. All chairs gave their reports from the activities of the past year, as well as their proposed plans up to the time of the XXII Convention. A meeting of the Nominat ing Committee for the Convention was also held. The Executive Board held a special 48 www.unwla.org
