REPORT OF THE GENERAL SECRETARIAT OF UNWLA THE NATIONAL AND EXECUTIVE BOARD MARIA TOMORUG, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY, UNWLA The XXI Convention of UNWLA was held on May 23, 24, 25, 1987, at the Hilton Hotel South, in Cleveland, Ohio. The Convention elected a new National Board and a new president, Maria Savchak. The Executive Committee was made up of the following individuals: Dr. Ivanna Ratych, first vice president; Olha Hnateyko, v.p. for membership, Lidia Hladky, v.p. for cultural affairs, and Dr. Martha Bohachevsky-Cho- miak, v.p. for public relations. The elected secretaries were: Luba Artymyshyn — pro tocol, Maria Tomorug — correspondence, Rosalie Polche — English language corres pondence. Treasurer — Olexandra Kirshak, financial secretary — Marta Danyluk, mem bers at large of the Executive Board — Iryna Kurowyckyj and Roma Shuhan. Chairs of committees: museum and culture — Lubow Wolynetz, education — Olha Trytiak, welfare — Lidia Chernyk, scholarship — Anna Kraw- chuk, press — Iryna Chajkowskyj. Elected to the auditing committee were: Evhenia Nova- kivsky and Alexandra Kachmar; alternates — Anna Rak and Evhenia Iwashkiw. Lubow Wolynetz resigned her post as chair of museum and culture committee in October, 1987 for personal reasons. Iryna Rusnak was coopted for the post. The first post-Convention meeting of the Executive Board of UNWLA was held on June 4,1987. The agenda called for an orderly transition of responsibilities. It was decided that during this term of office, the Executive Board will try to establish closer contact with the general membership of the organization by visiting individual branches, regions and distant branches, specifically at times of their jubilees, anniversary celebrations, regional meetings, or by special invitation to resolve various organizational problems. During this term of office the Executive Board held 40 meetings, 9 full day meetings, 1 special meeting, 1 conference of the presi dents of Regional Councils, and 3 meetings of the National Board. On June 25, 1987 the second Executive Board meeting was held, at which time the agenda of four Regional Meetings was dis cussed. The regions involved were Chicago, New York, Northern New York and New Jer sey. Ivanna Rozankowsky, Honorary Presi dent of UNWLA agreed to work on UNWLA’s archives. Member at large, Iryna Kurowyckyj con tinued in her post as UNWLA’s representa tive to the National Council of Women of U.S., where she was a member of the Inter national Hospitality Committee. Roma Shu han agreed to spearhead a membership drive geared toward new members at large. On August 6, 1987 Olexandra Kirshak, treasurer, represented UNWLA at the dedica tion of a memorial to St. Olha at Bound Brook, which heralded the start of the com memorative celebrations of 1000 years of Christianity in Ukraine. Maria Savchak, President of UNWLA visited the Detroit region from September 11 through 14, 1987. She took part in the Re gional meeting and represented the Execu tive Committee at the dedication ceremonies and banquet which marked the purchase of a new building by the Detroit Regional Coun cil. During this visit, the president met with the following branches: 5, 23, 26, 37, 58, and 80 to discuss various topics of business of the organization. A committee to choose branches to be honored at the next Convention was called with the following members: Ivanna Ratych, president; members — Marta Danyluk, Maria Tomorug, Olha Hnateyko and Roma Shuhan. Ivanna Rozankowsky agreed to head the Statutory Committee. It was also agreed to finance the publication of Zenovia Terlecky’s cookbook in hard or soft cover. The Board of the National Council of Women of U.S. held their semi-annual meet ing on October 5, 1987. Present were Maria Savchak and Iryna Kurowyckyj. At the October 11th, 1987 all day meet ing of the Executive Committee of UNWLA a committee was formed to deal with various matters concerning OUR LIFE, such as the 100% membership subscription, concerns of the editor, the editorial committee, and fi nancial matters of the magazine. Members of the committee were: Ivanna Ratych, presi dent; members: Ulana Starosolska, Iryna Czajkowskyj, Marta Danyluk, Olha Hnateyko and Lesia Kirshak.
