On January 14, 1987 we celebrated the beginning of our 25th year with a luncheon and program at the Ukrainian national Home in New York. Regular monthly meetings are held at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York. Our average membership remains at forty. Our Annual Charity Dinner Dance held at Soyuzivka, Kerhonkson, N.Y. is a time for friends and members to get together and raise funds. We also have a musicale each November, whereby we sponsor young Ukrainian talent in music, drama, and art. This program is of great interest to our young Ukrainians who are plan ning a future in the arts field. Since New York City has a large Ukrainian Community and many Ukrainian organizations with programs, we endeavor to give moral and financial support, and participate in such events as lectures, exhibits, festivals, conferences, demonstrations, letters, etc. Many support letters and opinions were written to Mr. Wm. Buckley upon his airing on TV the film “Harvest of Despair”. Support cards and letters were sent to John Demjanjuk who is awaiting trial in Israel. Our charitable contributions to needy Ukrainians include donations to the UNWLA Scho larship Fund and the UNWLA Medical Aide Fund for needy children and students in Brazil and Argentina. On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Museum, Branch 72 donated one thousand dollars towards the Building Fund for the Ukrainian Museum. Other activities of Branch 72 was participation at the conference on “The Ukrainian Woman In Two Worlds” at Princenton, N.J. One of our members, Helen Prociuk attended the conference in Kenya, Africa sponsored by the “World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations”. Her report was very interesting. Olga Liteplo represented Regional Council at ceremonies at Ellis Island recognizing promi nent immigrants, during the Statue of Liberty celebrations. Several members belong to the “National Council of Women of the United States’. Our members are first and second generation Ukrainian Americans. Although, some of us do not read or write Ukrainian, we are very proud of our customs and heritage. We do not miss an opportunity to be active in programs that promote Ukrainian culture, history, and knowledge of Ukraine to both the Ukrainian and American communities. 131 www.unwla.org
