work connected with the contest including announcement of the contest in the press, selec tion of jury members, announcing the winners of the contest, and other various details. “Our Life” , a magazine published by UNWLA, in its March 1983 issue carried a heart breaking story about how a three year old Ukrainian boy, who lived in Poland with his par ents, needed a highly specialized surgery of his left hand, damaged in an unfortunate acci dent, but which surgery was unavailable in Poland. A special fund drive was announced to help little Rostyk Cylupa come to the United States for his surgery. In July of 1983 Rostyk arrived in New York with his father, Emil Cylupa, had his surgery and is now playing with both of his hands. Dr. Lubomyr Kuzmak was his attending physician who had made all the medical and surgical arrangements. Ulana Liubovych and Anna Krawczuk were involved with taking care of various arrangements connected with Rostyk’s arrival, finding quarters for him and his father, his medical care and various other matters pertaining to their stay here. Ellen Bernstein, the Editor of the Medical and Health Annual of Encyclopedia Britannica, became interested in Rostyk’s medical case when she saw an article about him in THE NEW YORK TIMES issue of September 4, 1983. She arranged, through Dr. Kuzmak, a visit and interview which took place at his home on October 2, 1983. Present at the interview were: Dr. Lubomyr Kuzmak and his wife Oksana, Rostyk and his father, Emil Cylupa, Ivanna Rozan- kowsky, UNWLA President, and Anna Krawczuk, UNWLA Social Work Chairwoman. The 92nd Convention of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs held from May 29th- June 2nd, 1983 in Orlando, Florida, was attended by Ivanna Rozankowsky and Lydia Hladky, UNWLA’s President and Vice President respectively. Also attending the Convention were UNWLA members: Natalia Danylenko, Lydia Kyj and Myroslawa Stachiw. Mrs. Stachiw pre pared an exhibit of her Ukrainian folk artwork which was very successful. Although the Ukrainian Museum — a cultural centre founded by UNWLA — has achieved a position of distinction in the Ukrainian and American communities, still it requires advice, attention and cooperation from UNWLA. UNWLA, its Branches and members pay their dues, recruit new Museum members, provide small articles for sale at the Museum store, continue to make donations to the Museum, and in 1983 helped in the sale of lottery books the receipts from which were designated for the Museum’s Building Fund. Eighteen UNWLA members serve on the Museum’s Board. UNWLA together with the Museum published a booklet “How To Make Christmas Ornaments” both in English and Ukrainian. Much more can be said of the ongoing activities of the UNWLA — but this brief account should serve as an inspiration to greater accomplishments for the further growth of the organization.
