In October, 1982, Branch 52 U.N.W.L. A. Inc. celebrated its 45th Anniversary. It began with Divine Liturgy for the living members followed by a Panahyda for the deceased members, held at the Annunciation B.V.M. Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melrose Park, Pa. Immediately after the service, members, their spouses, guests and friends came downstairs to the beautifully decorated hall for the luncheon and program. Regional Council President —Mrs. Rostyslava Matla was the honored guest and presented the branch with a Certificate of Recognition from the National Home Office, located in New York City for which the members were grateful. Branch 52 U.N.W.L. A. Inc., better known in the past as the Ukrain ian Junior League in Philadelphia', has done much from its inception, sponsoring various affairs, acquiring funds to donate for many Ukrainian causes such as St. Basil’s Home, Manor Junior College, Missionary Sisters of Mother of God, Ukrainian Catholic Parishes, cooperat ing in the 40’s with the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee in mailing packages overseas as well as collecting babies’ and childrens’ clothing for mailing. Presently the branch has made a pledge of $500. for the Ukrainian Museum in New York City and has paid it partially. The branch has had meetings from September to June inclusively of each year. In addition the branch has been a member of The Philadelphia Federation of Women’s Clubs & Allied Org., Inc. as a Junior Club from 1943 and has participated in their meetings and pro grams informing them of our Ukrainian Customs and Heritage, arranging programs and hav ing speakers speak to the group. Our present president is a past president of the Federation, serving 1972 — 1974 and continues to serve on the Board. Members have arranged to have Ukrainian artifacts displayed in libraries and banks. The members are all either 2nd or 3rd generation American Ukrainians, always being aware of their heritage and are proud and enjoy spreading knowledge about Ukrainians and its Nation’s plight for freedom.
