XVII КОНВЕНЦІЯ СУА BRANCH 72, NEW YORK, N. Y. On January 10, 1962, Branch 72 consisted of 14 Ukrainian-Amerlcan born members and now has 40 members. Since 1963, Branch 72 has presented young Ukrainian-Americantalent In musicales held annually at the Ukrainian Institute of America on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The first evening affair sponsored by the branch was a Harvest Dance for charity fund raising. Since that event, the branch now annually presents a glittering, formal dinner-dance which is held in fashionable clubs and hotels. In recent years, organizers of the dinner-dance have been staging a gala weekend gathering for guests and members at the Ukrainian Catskill resort, Soyuzivka, with the dinner-ball as a spectacular highlight. Profits from this yearly affair are contributed to various charities and funds — Student in Brazil, The Press Fund Reserve, the Our Life Press Fund, the UNWLA Building Fund, Ukrainian War Veterans Organization, St. Basil' Orphanage, the World Congress of Free Ukrainians, the Cardinal Slipyj Fund, the Harvard Chair Fund and the UNWLA and UIA Scholarship Funds. The branch has focused its interest on education and liberal arts. The voices of Branch 72 members have been heard in Washington, D. C., the U. S. Senate, the United Nations, through Congressmen, and in presidential projects. Recently, members have protested against the famine in Ukraine and the unrighteous suppression of Ukrainians in the U. S. S. R. Branch 72 has fervently taken part in major events within the Ukrainian-American community. Furthermore, Branch 72 has sent delegates to UNWLA conventions and UCCA congressional sessions, and participates in the New York Regional Council, in which several Branch 72 members hold executive positions. 188 www.unwla.org
