BRANCH 60, CLEVELAND, OHIO The Ukrainian Junior Women's League, Branch 60, was organized in the fall of 1946 with Mrs. Helen Mural Shipka as its first president. The purpose of the Junior Women's League is to unite, under the charter of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc. to fulfill all obligations of a branch of the League. Locally, our aim is to unite women of Ukrainian birth and descent, or women married to men of Ukrainian birth or descent, for social, educational, civic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians outside the United States, and for organized participation in American and interna tional women's action. The club's philanthropic functions started early with contributions of money, living quarters and food for several newly-arrived Ukrainian families. We have always shown interest in the well being and happiness of others, and every year, Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas baskets are given to the needy. Due to the enthusiasm of our members, Branch 60 made the largest donation toward the Lesya Ukrainka Statue, which was unveiled and dedicated on September 24, 1961 in the Cultural Gardens in Cleveland. A large donation was made to UNWLA Headquarters for the printing of the English 168 translation of Lesya Ukrainka's poems, and we also donated toward the UNWLA building fund. www.unwla.org
