26 OUR LIFE • September-October 2025 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS UNWLA Branches Across the U.S. Celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day Anna Bereznyak , UNWLA Communications Coordinator This year, the UNWLA proudly helped shine a spotlight on Ukrainian Independence Day celebrations across the United States. Thanks to a generous gift from the Tretiak family, the UNWLA created a national digital visualizer that mapped 145 events across the coun - try (see image on previous page). Partner - ing with the American Coalition for Ukraine (ACU), this tool was shared with congression - al offices and media outlets, underscoring the deep and widespread support for Ukraine among the American people. For decades — even during Soviet rule — Soyuzianky consistently advocated for Ukraine’s independence. What once was a dream of freedom proclaimed in rallies and cultural programs is now a cause for celebration and continued vigilance. Today, UNWLA branches remain a key unifying force across the U.S., bringing communities together to honor Ukraine’s sovereignty, promote its cul - ture, and amplify calls for lasting peace. UNWLA branches were at the heart of many of this year’s Independence Day commemorations — leading flag-raisings, securing city proclamations, joining cultur - al festivals, and showcasing Ukrainian traditions to their neighbors. From small towns to major cities, the following exam- ples highlight how UNWLA branches worked hand-in- hand with local communities to celebrate Ukraine’s inde- pendence and promote awareness of Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for freedom. This is not a complete list — across the nation, Soyuzianky took part in dozens of commem - orations, each one a testament to the enduring spirit of Ukraine and the steadfast commitment of the Ukrainian diaspora in America. As they have for the past 100 years, Soyuzianky contin- ue to embody their mission: to advocate, educate, cul - tivate culture, and care. From advocating for independ - ence during the darkest days of Soviet oppression to serving today as a unifying force for communities nation - wide, the UNWLA stands unwavering in its dedication to Ukraine’s freedom and future. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Community members, in - cluding Soyuzianky, gathered on the steps of City Hall for a solemn flag-raising ceremony. The blue-and-yellow banner was lifted high while resi- dents, veterans, and officials stood together in solidarity, a moment later reported by the local media.
