НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Травень-Червень 2025 23 THE UKRAINIAN MUSEUM 222E6NYC Jurij Solovij: Abstracting Time May 16 – August 23, 2025 This first major survey exhibition of Jurij Solovij presents a significant opportunity to explore the multifaceted contributions of an esteemed artist and graphic designer who adeptly navigated the complexities of culture and identity through his work, and masterful - ly articulated the experiences of the Ukrainian diaspora. Born in Ukraine in 1921 and shaped by the turmoil of World War II, Solovij immi - grated to the U.S. in 1952, bringing with him a rich cultural heritage that would profoundly influence his artistic expression and imbue his art with a sense of identity and resilience. Jurij Solovij: Abstracting Time showcases a curated selection of Solovij's paintings and works on paper, revealing his remarkable mas - tery of color and form, which reflect both his Ukrainian roots and his experiences as an émi - gré. In addition to his paintings and drawings, the exhibition also features Solovij's graphic design work, including book covers and textile designs, illustrating his innovative approach towards visual communication. Together, his striking paintings and evocative graphic de - signs encapsulate the struggles and triumphs of the Ukrainian people. Through this comprehensive survey of works from Solovij’s arrival in the U.S. in 1952 until his death in 2007, visitors gain insight into the artist’s unique ability to fuse tradi - tional Ukrainian motifs with contemporary expressionistic elements. The exhibition not only affirms his place within the broader can - on of Ukrainian art but also underscores the enduring resilience of cultural identity in the diaspora. Ultimately, Jurij Solovij: Abstracting Time serves as both a celebration of Solovij's artistic legacy and an invitation to engage with the rich narratives of Ukrainian history.
