28 OUR LIFE • January-February 2025 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ВІДДІЛІВ І ЧЛЕНКИНЬ • BRANCH & MEMBER NEWS Branch 118 (Houston, TX) Takes Part in Slavic Heritage Festival Martha Uschak Noukas , Branch 118, Houston, TX Branch 118 participated in the 61st annual Sts. Cyril & Methodius Slavic Heritage Festival on September 22, 2024, in Houston. Sponsored by the Slavic Alliance of Greater Houston, the event at the Northside Colum - bus Club Hall was attended by over 600 people. Each year, the Ukrainian, Czech, Polish, and Slovak com - munities gather to celebrate Sts. Cyril & Methodius for their contributions to the Slavic lands in the 820s. Each Slavic community prepares food and invites the public to join them, as they display and sell their crafts and share their musical and dancing talents. Branch 118 brought beautiful Ukrainian handmade dolls, embroidery, glassware, crochet dolls, embroi - dered icons designed by Father Dmytro Blazejowskyj, and pysanka crafts to the event. The craft table was attended by branch president Juliana Villacorta, Olia Palmer, Solomia Winchester, Chrystia Bryndzia, and Alyssa Jackson. Branch 118 was also able to educate attendees about the UNWLA’s wonderful work and current initiatives. At the close of the successful event, the Slavic Alliance of Greater Houston graciously do - nated $3,000 to the UNWLA Humanitarian Aid Fund. The Pokrova Ukrainian Catholic Church Community Choir performed several folk songs at the event (l-r): Volodymyr Kotsiouruba on violin, Orest Pipka on sopilka, Mike Swydnycky, Kathy Grasso, Natalka Senkiv (Branch 118), Sonia Lau - renzi, Steve Nowak, Mychajlo Krywonos, and Director Martha Noukas (Branch 118).
