On May 5, Brookwood Elementary School held an International Day , where students were invited to share their her - itage and traditions with other students. At her son’s request, Elisa Jackson, mem - ber of Branch 118 in Houston, rallied the support of her fellow Soyuzianky, which culminated in a beautiful display Ukrainian art, embroidery, maps, sun - flowers, fun facts, and bookmark hand - outs. To top off the cultural feast, Elisa prepared a large crockpot of delicious Ukrainian borsch for kids from grades 1 to 5 to sample. The Ukrainian display and borsch sampling were a wonderful success, as were the bookmarks, loaded with facts about Ukraine! On May 15, Branch 118 member Solomia Winchester led the annual Vyshyvanka Day celebration, held at Sawyer Ice House in Houston. A DJ played Ukrainian tunes, door prizes were given out, and numerous blue “Hou-kraine” drinks were enjoyed, as attendees showed off their beautiful vyshyvanky and love for Ukraine! On June 1, Branch 118 held its annual Children Praying for Children event, coordinated by Sarah Uschak Milian and Ju - liana Villacorta. Prayer cards were printed out, and after the Sunday Liturgy, Father Mykola Dovzhuk gathered the children and parents at the altar of Pokrova Ukrainian Catholic Church in Houston, where everyone read the prayer aloud and in uni - son. Afterwards, refreshments were provided, and a table was set up outside where notes of encouragement were written onto strips of paper and laced into a chain link garland, to show the steadfast support, wishes, and prayers for the miss - ing children of Ukraine. 17 НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Серпень 2025 Branch 118 Shares Ukrainian Culture Martha Uschak Noukas , Branch 118, Houston, TX International Day at Brookwood Elementa- ry School.
