10 OUR LIFE • August 2025 2011-2020: The War in Ukraine and Ongoing Relief Efforts In 2011 the UNWLA formed partnerships with medical organizations such as Doctors Collaborat - ing to Help Children and Shriners Hospitals, provid - ing critical medical care for pediatric burn victims across Ukraine that continues to this day. The 2014 war in Ukraine has ushered in an era of unprecedented humanitarian needs, and the UNWLA continues to respond with urgency and compassion. The Aid to Ukrainian War Victims proj- ect was launched in 2014–2015 to provide medi - cal care, financial assistance, and rehabilitation to wounded soldiers in five major military hospi - tals across Ukraine. The UNWLA also founded the Adopt a Family of a Fallen Hero initiative, which provided support to families who had lost loved ones in the war. Additionally, the UNWLA initiated Trauma Life Support training for medical personnel in Ukraine and established Prostir Nadiyi (A Place of Hope), a trauma treatment center at the Ukrain - ian Catholic University. These efforts were aimed to provide psychological support and rehabilitation to those affected by war trauma, ensuring long-term care for survivors. In addition to supporting or - phans and several orphanages throughout Ukraine and even Turkey (Childhood Without War), the UNWLA has funded Summer and Winter Camps providing safe spaces for war victims’ children and orphans displaced by the war and in conflict zones. Our support of these camps continues to this day, offering psychological healing, spirituality, and a sense of normalcy amid the chaos of war.
