НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Вересень-Жовтень 2024 7 Laws were reviewed in detail and then voted on. The first plenary session of the day ended with a film about our beautiful Ukrainian Museum in New York. The comments shared after viewing the film were awe-inspiring. Many of our members were not familiar with this treasure we en- joy here in our “backyard” and which the UNWLA founded and funded. Many live far away and have never had the chance to visit this beautiful museum. Many members of our leadership team, inspired by the film, intend to en- courage members in their respective regions to become museum members as well. At our Saturday luncheon we listened to greetings via video from Paul Grod, president of the Ukrainian World Congress, and Yaroslava Hartyani, president of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO). Paul Grod noted that the theme of our convention, “Heritage and Strength: We Advocate, Educate, Cultivate, and Care,” resonates deeply, especially now as Ukraine faces an existential threat that none of us expected to see in our lifetime. The war has united Ukraine with the diaspora more than ever. He congratulated the UNWLA on its leadership in advocacy, as stated by Natalie Pawlen- ko: “Advocacy for Ukraine in the U.S. should be our top priority.” He also said that “the UWC often refers to the UNWLA’s work as a best-practices guide for many of our growing communities around the world.” What a compli - ment for the UNWLA! Yaroslava Hartyani stated that the UNWLA nurtures and develops Ukrainian women in America by supporting their ancestral homeland. Especially now during this war, the UNWLA is supplying Ukraine with humanitarian aid and advocating for Ukraine here in the U.S. The UNWLA’s history is tightly bound with the WFUWO’s history. “The UNWLA was one of the first initiators of the formation of our organization. You are a great example with your gen- erosity and your fight to preserve Ukraine’s identity. Thank you so much for helping our veterans, for the scholarships you offer for our young future generations, and for your active role and partnership with us at the United Nations.” Certificates of appreciation (hramoty) were then awarded to branches and Regional Councils for outstand- ing work in the areas of advocacy, arts and museum, ar - chives, culture, education, fundraising, scholarships, so- cial media, and social welfare. This year, in addition to presenting a certificate and a gold pin to members who achieved 50 years of service in the UNWLA, a certificate and a silver pin were given to those who attained 25 years of service. Also honored at the luncheon were the recipients of the UNWLA’s highest recognition, the Honored Member Award: Luba Bilowchtchuk, Chrystia Boyko, and Nadia Nynka. Maria Shust was honored as a non-UNWLA mem - ber, Myron Krawczuk was honored as a benefactor, and Marta Kolomayets was honored in memoriam.
