HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS SUMMER This summer, you can make a difference for Ukraine – regardless of where you find yourself! As the war continues, and our country’s attention shifts to other issues, our work is more important than ever. We must continue to raise our voices and speak for Ukraine. August offers a few unique opportunities for advocacy; here are some ways to capitalize on them. If you are interested in participating in any of the following opportunities, please email advocacy@unwla.org. VIRTUAL UKRAINIAN DAYS The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) is planning virtual Ukrainian Days for Ukrainians around the country to speak with their elected officials. It’s our goal to have all our branches participate! ELECTION Q&A As politicians campaign in your area, you have a unique opportunity to introduce them to their Ukrainian constituents. Reach out to both candidates in each race and offer them a chance to meet with the leaders of the Ukrainian community. UKRAINIAN FESTIVALS & INDEPENDENCE DAY Summer is a time of Ukrainian festivals across the country. Reach out to your elected officials (and candi - dates) – local, state, federal – and invite them to Ukrainian events planned in your area. AMERICAN RELATIONSHIP BUILDING As the war continues, our work must focus on educating and engaging the greater American community. Reach out to your local clubs, libraries, and organizations and offer to organize a cultural evening – it’s a great fundraising opportunity and a good way to educate Americans about Ukraine. SHARE CULTURE Our joy for Ukraine’s cultural gifts is infectious – and it offers us another vehicle for advocacy. Whether it’s an exhibit of Ukrainian handicrafts in your local library or a vinok workshop in a park – as you share Ukraine’s culture, you reinforce the uniqueness of Ukraine’s identity. ADVOCATE FOR UKRAINIAN VOICES Russia’s messaging is insidious and continues even after our work to ban RT America. We must ensure that Americans have access to books, films, and other media that provide an accurate version of Ukraine’s history and cultural identity.
