The large audience included Welsh First Prime Minister Mark Drakeford and members of Parlia - ment Dawn Bowden, Chief Whip With the UNWLA and the Press in Attendance, Gareth Jones Is Honored by the Welsh Parliament and Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Mick Antoniw, Counsel General for Wales. Mr. Antoniw, a Welsh Ukrainian, was instrumen - tal in sponsoring the event. The opening remarks were giv - en by Mr. Antoniw, who also in - troduced Minister Bowden. Ms. Bowden spoke at length about the horrors faced by the Ukrainian nation during the Holodomor and thanked Gareth Jones for his sig - nificant contributions in exposing the truth of the genocide inflicted upon the Ukrainian people. Another speaker was Lubomyr Luciuk, professor of political sci - ence at the Royal Military Col - lege of Canada and the author of several books and essays on the Holodomor and other topics. Professor Luciuk thanked Gareth Jones for being a truth-teller at a time when the famine-geno - cide was being covered up by the Soviets, his fellow travelers, and even Western governments. Oksana Lodziuk Krywulych rep - resented the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, the primary sponsor of the project to digitize the diaries of Gareth Jones. In her remarks (see pages 28-29), she thanked Mr. Jones for his courage in reporting the Holo - domor and likened the genocide of Ukrainians in 1932-1933 to the genocide Ukraine is experiencing today at the hands of the same perpetrator.
