20 OUR LIFE • July-August 2022 The Year in Review Highlights from the 2021 Annual Branch Report Natalie Pawlenko , UNWLA President Roksolana Sheverack , UNWLA Research Coordinator An annual report is a snapshot of the activities and health of an organization. Until recently, our branches and regional councils submitted their reports on paper. Two years ago, a small committee undertook the task of transforming existing paper-based UNWLA annual reports into an easy-to-complete online report. Below are the highlights from the UNWLA 2021 Annual Branch Report. The full report is available on our website, unwla.org, under the Publications tab. It should be noted that this report is a single point in time; in other words, there is no comparison to past years. It is also important to note that 2021 was the second year of a worldwide pandemic that inevitably had an effect on every single aspect of life in the U.S. Our organization was no exception, but even with this, our Soyuzianky continued to carry out the organization’s mission. We hope you find this information interesting and useful. If you have any questions, please address them to research@unwla.org. Branch annual reports were collected between February and May 2022. Of 65 branches, 49 submitted their annual reports within that time frame. Across the organization, the UNWLA welcomed 90+ new members. Although involvement is crucial to the longevity of the group, understanding the organization and its goals, objectives, structure, and norms is equally important. By taking the time to orient new members to the privileges and responsibilities of membership, we create a more educated membership and a more productive organization – people who can and will make sig - nificant contributions to the organization. UNWLA Membership Growing UNWLA National Program Areas Historically, the work of the UNWLA has centered on three areas: cul - ture, education (including scholar - ships), and social welfare.
