12 OUR LIFE • July-August 2022 The virtual presentation “Medical Relief for Displaced Ukrainians,” organized by the UNWLA in June, gath - ered more than 70 guests around their screens. Some had a medical background; others were deeply inter - ested in volunteer work with Ukrainian refugees. Lisa Prytula, a registered nurse with 30 years of healthcare experience, a master’s degree in Transcultural Nursing, and expertise in continuous improvement processes, works at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Flor - ida, where she has oversight for the hospital’s regula - tory affairs. Lisa had recently returned from Poland, where she volunteered to aid Ukrainian refugees. The presentation described the most common, acute, and chronic medical conditions suffered by the refugees and provided recommendations on how, together, we can sustain humanitarian relief and medical support. But she quickly harnessed those emotions and plunged into work. “The best way I know to help is through nursing. The very heart of nursing is helping people when they are at their Alina Zhurbenko , UNWLA Communications Coordinator on Medical Relief for Displaced Ukrainians “This is the best job I ever had,” remarks Lisa Prytula, arranging Zoom windows. Meticulous attention to detail and care for her patients permeate everything Lisa does: from comfortably readable slides of her presentation to an introductory disclaimer. All views are hers and hers alone. Names and locations are changed and not disclosed for security reasons, and reflecting on her experience, she does not represent any organization, its employees, or its affiliates.
