11 НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Липень-Cерпень 2022 Spring Flea Market: Philadelphia Regional Council All eight branches of the Philadelphia Regional Council (10, 43, 54, 67, 88, 90, 91, 128) came together and participated with 16 tables at a Spring Flea Market held at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center (UECC, also known as the Center) in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, June 18. As usual during these times, our blue-and-yellow flags greeted visitors. It was an unusually chilly and windy day, but potential buyers came looking for a “good deal” and something interesting to buy, and that they did. Soyuzianky donated many different items, ranging from household goods and Ukrainian T-shirts to beautiful works of art, books, Ukrainian arts and crafts, and more. They also came to enjoy the delicious food that the Center is known to have, such as varenyky , holubtsi, kobasa , and kapusta . Hot coffee and tea and scrumptious pastries baked by members of Branch 43 of our Okruha and some members of the UECC were also available inside the building. The goal was to raise as much money as possible for the people of Ukraine who are experiencing many hardships as the result of the brutal russian invasion. Stefania Perrong, Second Vice-President for the Philadelphia Okruha , organized and chaired the Flea Market. Stefania wants to hold more flea markets in the future, with another one planned for September. More information to follow! Petrusia Sawchak , Press Secretary, Philadelphia Regional Council They were assisted by members of the Philoptochos Society – a Greek women’s philanthropic organization – and even by the president of the Church Council! Uniting for Ukraine was a great success, with many visitors donating more than the price of admission, and everyone expressing their support for Ukraine and Ukrainians, their hope that the war will end soon, and their belief that Ukraine will rebuild and once again thrive. Dubbed “Nadiya” (Hope) by Nadia and her volunteers, the initiative raised funds for the UNWLA’s aid to orphanages in the Kharkiv region. Highlights of the Uniting for Ukraine fundraiser aired on WPTV News Channel 5 at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday night. Nadia Kachalenko , Member-at-Large, Palm Beach County, FL
