Our Life | Наше життя June | Червень 2021 26 Demographics Dr. Oleh Wolowyna THE SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS OF UKRAINIAN AMERICAN WOMEN Statistical data are not routinely reported separate - ly for males and females. When they are reported separately, it is often to point out the inequalities experienced by women. This report is different; it describes the positive socioeconomic status of Ukrainian women in the U.S. Three dimensions of so - cioeconomic status are analyzed: level of education, labor force status, and managerial and professional occupations. Level of Education To maximize the number of people with completed education, we measure the level of education for per - sons 25 years or older. Figure 1 shows the level of ed - ucation completed by Ukrainian females and males in 2018. The percentage of women and men who have not completed high school (the < H.S. category) is very small. Slightly more males than females have finished high school, while slightly more females than males have attended some college. Relatively more females than males have four years of college, and more men than women have five or more years of college. The percentage of Ukrainian women and men in the U.S. with four or more years of college can be determined by adding the last two categories, four years of college and five or more years of college, which total 53.6% and 54%, respectively. In other words, the percentage of women with a college degree is only 0.4% lower than the percentage of men – that is, the level of ed - ucation of Ukrainian men and women in the U.S. is practically the same. The high education level among Ukrainian women is a recent development. Figure 2 shows a big difference in women’s level of education between 2000 and 2018, with large declines in the percentages of women with less than high school and high school completed. The percentages with four years of college and five or Figure 1. Level of education of Ukrainians* by sex: U.S., 2018 (percentages) 2.9 3.5 23.5 22.4 19.6 20.4 28.6 29.0 25.4 24.6 35 0 < H.S.
