Our Life | Наше життя June | Червень 2021 23 ported. In 2010, when I sent them English and Ukrainian e-books of the Puppet Mitten , the Ukrainian e-book was pulled from sale. Am - azon explained that the Ukrainian language is not yet supported. The English Puppet Mitten e-book is still being marketed today. The Ukrainian paperback Puppet Mitten , by the Puppet Folk, and the English paperback Puppet Mitten were published in 2010 by Lightning Source US, a global digital printer. Originally for pub - lishers, Lightning Source now also contracts with individual authors, provided the author has an ISBN and meets the printer’s specifica - tions, which include using the Ado - be PDF format. Lightning Source is a subsidiary of Ingram, the largest distributor of books in the U.S. Accessing global booksellers and wholesalers, Lightning Source US and Lightning Source UK partner with Ingram, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Gardners, and many other distribution part - ners in the U.S., United Kingdom, and Europe. The team that prepared the books for the Puppet Folk publishing project consisted of Jerome Ko - zak – scenery and puppets; Chris - tine Hodiw Juzych – costumes; Roman Olexander Prokop – text; Mark Howard Preston and Mark Eugen Prokop – photography; Lada Pelensky Prokop – produc - tion and computer read; and Pav - lo Tymish Prokop – publisher. Both Christine and Lada are mem - bers of Branch 96, with Christine having served as Branch Secre - tary, and Lada as Branch Cultural Co-Chair. Christine also edited a monthly Ukrainian page in Our Life for five years, titled Kaleidoscope of a Woman’s Life ( Калейдоскоп Жіночого Життя ), and has been a member of the magazine’s Ukrain - ian-language editorial staff. Lightning Source US is an on-demand publisher, publishing in 100 lan - guages, including Ukrainian. All instructions for publishing are on its website. Lightning Source US requires a small advance payment for each computer-ready Adobe PDF–formatted book. The payment covers the ISBN, the cost of printing the book, and an optional paper proofing copy, totaling about $100 per book. The books are sold on Amazon and are available for sale in many countries and in many stores. However, there is an additional annual fee of $12 for the marketing of each book. The three versions of Puppet Mitten by the Puppet Folk (the English and Ukrainian paperback versions and the English e-book) have been advertised and sold for 11 years in American, UK, and European stores, as well as online. We hope more UNWLA members will take the opportunity to publish their English-language books at no cost at Amazon KDP, and to publish Ukrainian-language books at little cost at Lightning Source US.
