Our Life | Наше життя June | Червень 2021 22 UNWLA Members of Branch 96 in Detroit have par - ticipated in the publication of two English-language paperback books at Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) at no cost. The first book was published in 2019, with the in - volvement of then Branch 96 President Marta Kwit - kowsky, who computer-formatted and typed the book. It is a memoir by her uncle Myroslaw Kalba, titled Nachtigall , translated from Ukrainian to Eng - lish by Jaroslaw Berezowsky and Dr. Jaroslaw Saw - ka. A committee headed by Lydia Taraschuk, current Branch 96 President, worked on the book for 10 years. Larissa Babak, Zhdan Lassovsky, and Vera Kal - ba also contributed, and prepared the manuscript. Marta’s son Adrian Kwitkowsky scanned the photo - graphs, ensured the book met Amazon KDP require - ments, and submitted the book to Amazon KDP for publication. Nachtigall is available for purchase on Amazon Books under the author Kalba, Myroslaw. The second book, Quality Online Learning and Testing by Lada Prokop, was published by Dr. Pavlo Prokop at Amazon KDP in 2021. Submitted in Adobe PDF format in the evening, it was on sale at Amazon Books the next morning. Amazon KDP publishes paperback books at no initial cost to the publisher/author. It even supplies a free ISBN, which is required for sale of the book. All the instructions are on its website. The book must be submitted computer-ready for printing in one of five formats. The books are printed on-demand. From each book sold, Amazon KDP deducts its printing cost and a royalty fee; it mails the remaining profit to the publisher/author’s account on a quarterly ba - sis. The publisher/author determines the sale price. Amazon KDP publishes in 41 languages.
