6 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “ НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ ”, ЧЕР ВЕНЬ 2020 awaiting food donationa, UNWLA members were eager and r eady to aid fellow Americans. As of today (May 14), with a week left to the deadline of the fundraiser, approximately $15,000 has been donated toward this e ffort. Oka Hrycak’s conversations with UNWLA members yielded some positive feedback, and I cite two examples that reflect the responses given: “I'm very impressed with this i nitiative.” “We haven't had a project to help fellow Americans since Hurricane Ha rvey. I'm happy to contribute.”' UNWLA Honorary member and Honorary President of The Ukrainian Museu m Olha Hnateyko also shared her impressions with Oka Hrycak and myself, sta ting emphatically, “ I am so proud to be a member of our organization!” Thank yo u, Pani Olyu! So are we! Building the First Ever Ukrainian American Artist Directory An Appe al from Natalia Pawlenko, UNWLA Arts and Museum Chair For the past two years, the UNWLA Arts & Museum Advisory, a committed group of Ukrainian artists, fo lklorists, historians, educators, and community advocates have worked on developing the first ever U krainian American Artist Directory. The goal is to create a searchable national directory of the many talented and varied Ukrainian American artists who wor k in many genres for the purpose of creating a resource for communities across the United States and , indeed, the world. The Directory will include pro- fessional/commercial artists and hobbyists, all of whom preserve or create fresh new Ukrainian art forms and share their work through lect ures, demonstrations and workshops. The Directory is voluntary, and participating artists are invited to complete a brief survey about themselves and their art. This information will periodically be uploaded to the UNWLA we bsite at www.unwla.org . The art forms listed in the survey include basket weaving, carving, ceramics, cinematography, dancing, design, doll making, egg decorating (pysanky), embroidery, furniture design, glass making, ico- nography, jewel ry, leatherwork, metal work, musical composition, musical instrumen ts, painting, paper cutting (vytynanky) , photography, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, stone carving, straw weaving/straw art, toy making, weaving, wickerwo rk, and writing. Adding additiona l art forms is also an option. The UNWLA has a 95 year history of fostering, promoting, preserving and educating others about Ukrainian culture. We encourage all Ukrainian artists, professional or hobbyists who keep our t raditions alive or who create new ways of expressing themselves in art to consider being a part of t his great endeavor for our current Ukrainian American community and for generations to come. We also encourage all UN- WLA members to share this information w ith those in your communities who should be included in the Ukrainian American Artist Directory. The link to the Artist Directory survey is on our website at www.UN- WLA.org . For additional information, please contact UNWLA Arts and Museum Chair Natalia Pawl enko at ArtsandMuseum@unwla.org.
