A short history of Branch 124 was presented by the author of this article, who described how the vision of one individual, Mrs. Mira Hankewych, was the beginning of our branch. Mira knew that the St. Petersburg community c omprised hard working, multitalented women who originally lived throughout the United States but now call St. Petersburg home. Mira organized a committee of eleven women who believed that creating a UNWLA branch in S t. Petersburg would establish friendship s, strengthen our com- munity, and unify women while working on projects that wo uld make a positive impact on Ukrainian causes throughout Florida, the United States and Ukraine. With the approval of the UNWLA National Board, Branch 124 was established in 200 0. Luba Mycyk was elected our first branch president. Maria Brown then intro duced Stefanie Leddy, Br. 124 Scholarship Chairperson, who spoke about previous fundraisers and student sponsorship over the years and hig hlighted the generosity of members who i ndependently sponsor students through the UNWLA Scholarship Program. Following her presenta- tion, one of the attendees, Ms. Olena Boyko, requested the floor. To honor our 20 th anniversary and want- ing to help a student , Olena made a generous donation toward sponsoring a college student in Ukraine. Mrs. Tanya Risko also generously dona ted funds to the UNWLA Scholarship Program in honor of our branch anniversary. We were touched by their heartfelt gestures and thanked the m as well as all who have supported the Scholarship Program over the years. Fl orida Presidents and UNWLA Board Members.
