“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, СІЧЕНЬ 20 20 WWW. UNWLA.ORG 11 The UNWLA will be celebrating its 95 th anniversary in 2020, inching ever closer to a century since its determined and focused beginnings. This year we will come together to laud our accomplishments while planning for the future at our next с onvention, the XXXII UNWLA С onven tion, which will take place in September. (Please see details on page 3 ). The UNWLA is special and unique. Our membership is divers e: we differ in age, religious denomination, political persuasion and birth place and yet find a common language through our common goals. Every member is given the opportunity to express her individual ity and share her talents and ideas. Together we create a n amaz - ing kaleidoscope that has evolved into an organization with a prominent standing in our communities. UNWLA projects and special events are strongly supported and respected across the U . S. It is our duty as community leaders and activists to ensure ou r organization not only lives on but thrives. One way we can accomplish this is by sharing our successful and exciting projects via social media (our website and Facebook pages) and using these as re cruiting tools. If we believe in our UNWLA mission, our o pportunities are boundless. As our website by - line proclaims, we are an organization “where rich history meets new opportunities!” And as noted in the Convention “save the date” announcement, the Con vention Committee and the UNWLA Executive chose “Spreadin g our wings” as the XXXII Convention motto, inviting and encouraging our members to find new paths to accomplishing real, positive, and lasting results. I believe that the 2019 UNWLA project “UNWLA s upports the spiritual rebirth of Ukraine“ clearly demonst rates just such a new path. As Nadia Nynka, UNWLA VP of Public Relations, wrote in an article published in The Ukrainian Weekly (June 2019) : “According to its value statement, the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) is guided by principle s of Christian ethics, religious tolerance, political non - partisanship and universal respect for human rights. It is in keeping with these very values that the UNWLA announces its newest program. As part of this program, the UNWLA will be providing financi al support to two educational institutions: the Kyiv Three Saints Theological Seminary of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Volyn Theological Academy.” Ms. Nynka cont inued: “Through their missions both of these churches are wo rking to reaffirm Christian, moral and family values, esp - ecially at this time of war and unrest in Ukraine. According to UNWLA president, Marianna Zajac, this is an opportune time for the UNWLA t o help both the Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Ukrainian Ortho dox Churches through the education of seminarians and their message of peace and good will. We believe that enabling the two largest churches in Ukraine to educate future priests and spiritual lea ders who will focus on the geographically war - torn areas of Ukraine will, in turn, be a stepping stone to enabling the process of healing the nation.” The UNWLA has thus far given financial support to supplement the education of seminarians and has also pr ovided funds for educational materials (e.g., computers, Ukr ainian language textbooks, etc.). In an email to the UNWLA President, Rector Volodymyr Vakin ((Volyn’ Theological Academy) wrote that it was through our outreach and support that connections have been made with the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv an d Fr. Rector Bohdan Prakh, and joint projects are on the horizon. Rector Vakin specified that our new project has formed a “bridge” to help bring Ukrainians of different confessions together! How gratifying that this project is being effectively accepted a nd is viewed as a unifying instrument. We encourage our membership and supporters to contribute to this fund and help support these institutions of higher learning! “LET US SPREAD OUR WINGS !” Wishing all members of the UNWLA, readers of Our Life , and all our generous supporters good health, much satisfaction in your personal and organizational endeavors, much joy in the company of family and friends! Happy New Year !!
