24 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛЮТИЙ 2019 IN MEMORIAM Martha Wasylyna Arnold , a long - time member and president of UNWLA Br anch 38 in Denver, Colorado , died on November 8 , 2018, after a long illness. Martha was born in Western Ukraine on August 20, 1941. Her family immi- grated to the United States after World War II and settled in Detro it before mov- ing to Philadelphia and finally to Denver where Martha’s father , Evhen Wasyl- yna , served as deacon at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord . Martha earned a Master's degree in social work from the University of Den- v er . As a social w orker, she helped many Ukrainian newcomers to the Denver metropolitan area settle in to the ir new environment. As a member and officer of Branch 38, she organized Ukrainian celebrations and facilitated arrange- ments for artists from Ukraine to come to Denver to perform. Martha is survived by her daughter Natalie Blais, who serves as admission officer at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, by two grandchildren, and by two brothers, Taras and Andriy. A pana k hyda in her memory was hel d on November 10 in Denver . A memorial service is planned for March by her daughter . Writing on Facebook about her mother, Natalie commented , "She gave to everybody and anybody that needed something. She always opened her home to family, friends , strangers.
