Branch 99 , Watervliet, of the Re - gional Council of Central New York participated in the annual Festival of Nations, showcasing our rich Ukrainian culture with groups representing 28 other nations from around the world. October 20. Branch 21, Brooklyn, of the New York Regional Council, was recognized w ith an award by the international compet ition “Shev - chenko unites nations.” October 20. Branch 75 of Whippany ( New Jersey Regional Council) hosted a brunch for the com mu- nity held at St . John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Whippany to benefit UNW LA project “Adopt a Family of a Wounded Soldier.” October 25 & 27. Branch 137 of Clifton (New Jer- sey Regional Council) hosted Oksana Kara vanska Haute Couture Fashion Show with proceeds to benefit the Dzherelo Children’s Rehabilitation Center in L’viv, Uk raine. (Photo 4, page 3 ) October 27. Br anch 135 of the New Jersey Re - gional Council hosted a Chocolate Fun Party with Willy Wonka for the children of the community. (Photo 5, page 3 ) October 27. Branch 129 of the Detroit Regional Council celebrated its 15 th anniversary with an evening dedicated to famous Ukrainian women in history. October 27. Branch 139 of the New England Re - gional Council (Stamford, Ct.) hosted an autumn evening. (Photo 6, page 3 ) During the month of October Branch 98 of the New Je rsey Regional Council featured a Holo do- mor exhibit at the Old Bridge Public Library November 2. Branch 65 of the New Jersey Re - gional Council hosted a children’s masquerade and “zabava” in New Brunswick. November 4. Branch at Large 120, Rochester, N. Y. , hosted the screening of the documentary film “Rubizh” on the history of the Ukrainian Partisan Army. The event included a skype conference with the film’s director Olesya Morhunets. November 9. Branch 30, Yonkers, of the New York Regional Council host ed an event called “We invite you to a traditional Ukrainian wedding.” November 10. Branch 135 of the New Jersey Re - gional Council hosted an event featuring Oksana Kis’, historian and author, who spoke about the difficult experiences of the “Women in the Gulag.” November 10. Branch 76 of the Detroit Regional Council hosted its annual children’s “Embr oidery zabava ” . November 10. New York Regional Council held its annual and traditional Den’ Soyuz i ank y . This year’s event was dedicated to artist and Ukrai nian patriot Alla Horska and was entitled “Alla Horska – the flower on a volcano.” (Photo 7, page 3 ) November 16. Members of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Regional Councils at- tend ed the annual Holodomor commemoration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. November 16. Branch at Large #27 of Pittsburgh, Pa. , hosted its annual “Vyshyvani Vechorn y tsi” with the presentation of debutantes. (Photo 8, page 3 ) November 24. Branch 64 of the New York Re - gional Council hosted a presentation of the fir st book of Ukrainian cuisine authored by Olya Fran - ko (daughter - in - law of Ivan Franko). The pre- sen ter was Marianna Dushar, Fulbright scholar from Ukraine. These events offer only a smattering of the activi- ties of UNWLA branches nationwide! We encour- age ou r branches to share news about their activi- ties so that we can post them on Facebook, write about them and invigorate our entire membership!
