28 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2019 UNWLA Branch 75 Hosts “New Dimensions” Art Exhibit and Sale by Irka Sawchyn Doll UNWLA Branch 75 members, with artists Orest Poliszczuk and Petrykivka representatives Natalie Pawlenko and Yuri Mischenko, at New Dimensions Art Exhibit and Sale . Photo by Myron Krywulych . UNWLA Branch 75 from Maplewood/Whippany, N.J., sponsored and hosted a fund - raising art exhibit and sale titled “New Dimensions.” The well - attended show was held on October 14, 2018 , at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey in Whippany, N.J., and was successfully coordinated by members of Branch 75, led by Committee co - chairs Marta Popovich and Irka Sawchyn Doll and Branch 75 President Oksana Lodziuk Krywulych . The exhibit featured two contemporary Ukrainian - American artists with very differe nt artistic styles, Orest Poliszczuk and Olya Powzaniuk. Attendees had the opportunity to view and purchase exam- ples of vibrant Petrykivka art created by various artists from Ukraine, from the private collection of Natalie Pawlenko and Yuri Mischenko. Mr . Poliszczuk presented an impressive array of gouache and photo - screened art works, with themes that included pastoral landscapes and lovely flo ral still - lifes. His paintings with Ukrainian themes, such as dancing hutsuls, were particularly appealing to th e au- dience. Ms. Powzaniuk exhibited soft - colored impression istic art, with a variety of themes, including Ukrainian land scapes, cityscapes and abstracts. She paints almost ex clusively in pas- tels, with much of her work painted “En PlainAir” (“in the open air”). The third segment of the exhibit was a collection of art work in the Petrykivka style, a Ukrainian folk - art painting style that originated in the village of Petrykivka in the eastern Dnipro oblast of Ukraine. During the past century Petrykivka art has generated a great deal of interest ( in Ukraine and in- ternationally ) as an indigenous folk art. Thirteen artists were represented in this colorful segment of the exhibit. Branch 75 has sponsored several major exhibits in New Jersey, including two exce ptional exhibits of the art of Jacques Hnizdowsky. This exhibit continued in the same tra- dition by offering guests an enjoyable afternoon of convivial atmosphere, beautiful art and a sumptuous lunch . Proceeds benefit various humanitarian causes and endeavo rs of Branch 75 and the UNWLA. UNWLA Art Show guest viewer and future art collector. Photo by Myron Krywulych .
