(see below) Monsignor Peter Waslo led those gathered i n prayer while Dr. Jonathan Peri, president of Manor College, lit the candle on the table. A som- ber silence fell over the crowd as 85 names of child victims of the Holodomor were read aloud. As each name was read, guests were given a stalk of wheat with a child's name tied to it with black ribbon. As they placed their wheat stalks on the table by the candle, many were wiping away tears or silently praying for the children and for all those who had lost their lives during this atrocity. For this writer, it w as especially touching to be in a room depicting a house very similar to the houses in which these 85 children had once lived, played, and died. Following this somber ceremony, guests were invited into an adjacent room to watch Hun- ger for Truth: The Rhea C lyman Story . Directed by Andrew Tkach, the film describes a British jour- nalist’s travels through Ukraine, her discoveries of what was truly happening and why, and her stub- born refusal to be cowed or silenced by Soviet au- thorities intent on hiding the truth from the world behind the Iron Curtain. Breaking news from U krainian National Information Service (U NIS ) HOLODOMOR RESOLUTION PASSES IN THE U.S. SENATE In the late hours of Wednesday, October 3rd, the U.S. Sena te passed by unanimous consent S. Res.435, a resolution commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Ukrainian Famine - Genocide (Holodomor) of 1932 - 1933. The resolution recognizes the findings of the 1988 Commission on the Ukraine Famine that expressly states “Joseph Stalin and those around him committed genocide against the Ukrainians in 1932 – 1933.” Коли б ми плакати могли Олександр Олесь Коли б ми плакати могли, Які б річки з очей незрячих Які б річки із сліз гарячих По Україні потекли!
