“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ТРАВЕНЬ 2018 WWW. UNWLA .ORG 29 Bran ch 136: Taking Our Show on the Road by Valia Dimitri, Branch 136 P R and Press Secretary March 15, 2018. Natalka Santarsiero, President Branch 136, and Valia Dimitri, PR and Press Secre- tary and presenter of event featuring Olha Onyshko’s Women of Mai dan . Since before the 2017 UNWLA convention, mem- bers of Branch 136 of Naples, Florida, have been planning a community outreach endeavor, which begins with meeting with community leaders and other organizations. Because we are still consid- ered ‘newbies’ in the Naples area (only in existence since 2014), we are striving to make a name for ourselves as an active, vibrant organization that has much to offer the community. We are dedi- cated to our mission: to growing our organization while enriching the communit y with continued ed- ucational programs that are historical and cultural in nature. This winter we partnered with Hodges University as part of the university’s Life Long Learning program. We created a presentation cen- tered on Olha Onyshko’s documentary Wome n of Maidan . The presentation, which we hosted in January and in March 2018, was extremely well re- ceived, and we were invited to continue our work with other similar programs. People were amazed to learn the truth about what is happening in Ukraine, and th ey want to know more. So, we will be giving them more. We are al- ready discussing agenda details for the fall of 2018, during which we will be running several informa- tional presentations about the political scene in Ukraine. The goal is to raise awareness within the American community about Ukraine’s struggle for freedom. In addition our intent is to continue ex- posing the community to our beautiful and colorful cultural history and artifacts. Currently, we have set up displays featuring pysanky, embroidery and other artifacts in two local libraries. We also hosted a ‘Pysanka’ workshop on March 16, and our sign - up sheet for this event filled up quickly. These de- velopments are exciting and inspire new ideas and new projects. One Hundred Years Ago The ta llest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. The American flag had 45 stars . Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet. Only 14 percent of American homes had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of American homes had a telephone.
