“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, БЕРЕЗЕНЬ 2018 WWW.UNWLA.ORG 29 UNWLA Branch 56 Visits the Baker Museum Members of Branch 56, North Port, the Ukrainian American Club and some guests recently visited the Baker Museum at Artis-Naples, to take in the Florida Contemporary exhibition. The museum features a vast collection of work, ranging from medieval to contemporary art; its permanent col- lection includes Dawn’s Forest , the largest known sculpture by Ukrainian American artist Louise Nevelson. The campus is large; it houses multiple galleries and hosts popular performing artists, troupes and orchestras from around the world. The 2017-2018 Florida Contemporary ex- hibition was a departure from past practice. This year, Chief Curator Frank Verpoorten and Director of Curatorial Affairs Gisela Carbonell decided that they would invite what they considered the best contemporary artists with a Florida connection to exhibit a body of their work at the museum. Nor- mally, the annual event features the work of 16 to 30 artists. This year’s exhibition was limited to works from only four invited artists. One of these was Patricia Zalisko, a member of UNWLA Branch 56 whose contribution to the exhibit was large- scale collages. During the January visit by art enthusiasts from the UNWLA and the UAC, a docent greeted them and conducted a tour of the museum’s exhi- bitions and art from its permanent collection. Ms. Zalisko joined the group to discuss her work in Florida Contemporary and answer questions. UN- WLA members posed for photos with the artist and her work. After viewing the exhibit, the group en- joyed a lovely lunch in Naples, Florida. Left to right: Ann-Marie Susla, Oksana Lew, Halyna Lisnyczj, Daria Tomashovsky, Lidia Bilous, Roma Guran. For anyone considering a trip to southwest Florida, a visit to Artis-Naples is a wonderful diver- sion, offering a great show and inspiration.
