Lazor, Post #40, located in North Port, Florida, held its annual Christmas luncheon on December 1, 2017, at The Family Table Restaurant. As Post mem- bers, families, and friends celebrated the Christmas season, Post 40 Commander Ihor W. Hron and Post 40 Vice-Commander presented the prestigious “Commander’s Award” to two individuals in recognition of their commitment and dedication to the community: Colonel Roman Rondiak and Olya N. Czerkas. Colonel Roman Rondiak, U.S. Army, Special Forces, retired. Colonel Rondiak has been and con- tinues to be actively involved with local and national Ukrainian American Veterans. He has held many leadership roles and is a positive and influential member of the Ukrainian American community in North Port and throughout the United States. Olya N. Czerkas, a retired teacher and long-time member of the UNWLA, was honored “For her dedication and commitment to the Ukrainian American community of the greater St. Petersburg, Florida, area. She holds key leadership positions in numerous organizations and is inspirational to all.” Olya is currently serving as president of UNWLA Branch 124 (St. Petersburg, Florida) and concur- rently serves the organization as co-liaison for Branches-at-Large. She is a parishioner at Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church and serves with St. Anthony’s Hospital Auxiliary. Olya is also an Advisor to the Ukrainian National Association (UNA) and has worked in an administrative capacity at the So- yuzivka Children’s Camp for the past 27 summers. Though formally retired from teaching, her love of nur- turing endures in the community where she has taught Ukrainian dance, organized children’s events, and coordinated other community activities. We salute our fellow Soyuzianka Olya Czerkas for this well-deserved honor. Kudos, Olyu!
