22 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ - СЕРПЕНЬ 2018 ДІЯЛЬНІСТЬ ОКРУГ І ВІДДІЛІВ СУА Miami’s Branch 17 Hosts Vyshyvani Vechornytsi b y Patricia Krysa, Branch 17 Corresponding Secretary On April 29, Miami Branch 17 hosted a Vyshyvani Vechornytsi event at the Grateful Palate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The venue was perfect, positioned alongside the scenic Intracoastal Water- way. Guest s arrived decked out in vyshyvanky, each more eye pop- ping than the one before. As the sun set and while the boats passed by in the adjacent waterway, we sipped our aperitifs to the music of Kvitka Cisyk playing softly in the background. A delicious buffe t featuring Chicken K ie v along with an ar- ray of tasty side dishes was prepared by the Grateful Palate chef and staff, and Branch 17 provided a beautiful assortment of home - baked tortes and other desserts. DJ extraordinaire Karyn Wilk set the mood and pace with a fabulous playlist including traditional Ukrainian and modern American music. The dancing was capped off by a Kolomyjka led by Donna Maksymowich - Waskiewicz and several members of the Ukrainian Dancers of Miami. A lively “embroidery fashion parade” f ollowed. Special recognition was awarded the following individuals: Lidia Bilynsky (Best Traditional Female), Natalia Bubanj (Best Contemporary Female) Father Andrii Romankiv (Best Male), and Sonya Lotocky (Best Combined Contemporary/Traditional Female). T he distin- guished panel of judges consisted of Colonel Roman Andrejchyk, Marta Lewicky, and Marta Legeckis. During the event, Branch 17 also presented a h ramota to Tamara Huryn to acknowledge her many years of dedicated service and charitable works on behal f of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America. A Silent Auction featuring beautiful paintings, vysh y - vanky, gerdany, various baskets of cheer, not to mention the su- perb photographs of Slavko Sperkacz and Roman Decyk, served as side entertainment during the festivities. This was also an effective fund raiser; the proceeds will be shared with one of the UNWLA’s programs for Ukrainian war victims. A special thank you should be extended to our UNWLA sisters from the Naples, New York, North Port and Washington, D.C. branches and to the other out - of - towners who made the effort to join us. Our abun- dant gratitude also goes to organiz- ing committee members Oresta Hamersky, Oksana Piaseckyj, and Olha Sperkacz for bringing a touch of Ukraine to Fort Lauderd ale. Sonya Lotocky .
