Addressing a stand- ing room only audience, Mrs. Kobryn presented an illustrated lecture covering the history and sym- bolism of Ukrainian embroidery, as well as the many styles, differences, types of stitches, and con- temporary use of embroidery design in clothing. Surrounding the lecture area were displays of per- sonal embroidery items; we were especially thank- ful to Branch 98 member Luba Kasian and her hus- band Vlodko who shared their valued eighteen- piece sampler, “Ukrainian Kaleidoscope” embroi- dered by Luba’s mother and mother-in-law. Mrs. Kobryn entertained questions from the audience while guests enjoyed light refreshments. Hard work by branch members resulted in a most suc- cessful event and the addition of several new mem- bers: Olia Kobryn, Tamara Tallman, Madeline Tallman, and Christina Fedun. Pronounced interest in the embroidery ex- hibit and lecture at the library in Shrewsbury led to the decision to present both at another library: the Old Bridge Public Library, Central Branch in Old Bridge, N.J. The exhibit moved to the new location in February 2018, and Mrs. Kobryn reprised her lecture and added a workshop afterwards for the new audience. We are grateful to Natalia Pawlenko, who created a Facebook page for us where readers can learn more about these and our other activities. Looking ahead, Branch 98 will be celebrat- ing its 30 th anniversary on April 29, 2018. We look forward to planning and hosting additional suc- cessful ventures that we will be reporting about in the pages of Our Life . Народилася в Ню Йорку у 1925-му р. в сім’ї українських іміґрантів першої хвилі; померла у Денвер, Кол., у 2008-му р. З дитинства була занурена в українську культуру, що постійно підсилювалося громадською активністю батьків, які також були власниками книгарні «Сурма» в Ню Йорку. Отримала диплом у галузі мистецтва в Коледжі Купер Юніон. Працювала як ілюстратор дитячих часописів, малювала на склі. Такі роботи Ярослави виставлялися та часто репродукувались на листівках, і це принесло їй славу. Широко публікувалася, серед її відомих робіт — ілюстрації до української народної казки « The Mitten » ( « Рукавичка ») (переклад англійською Елвіна Тресселта). Була редактором і мистецьким директором дитячого часопису «Хитун-Бовтун». Виготовила вітражі для католицької церкви св. Димитрія в Торонто, а також вітраж на дверях будівлі Ню Йоркської асамблеї.
