In July, member Halyna Jakubowycz hosted an 80 th birthday party fund- raiser for her husband Stanley. Friends and family celebrated the event that raised $3,860 for the UN- WLA War Victim’s Fund and $160 for the UNWLA Scholarship Fund. These funds were routed through the UNWLA’s National Office in New York and coordinated with the Social Welfare Chair. In August, the branch received a donation of medical supplies from Mrs. Oksana Palka in honor of her late husband and brother of member Halyna Lojko. Five boxes of supplies were packed by branch members and forwarded to a military hos- pital in Lviv, Ukraine. In September, Branch 98 members attended a festival at The Ukrainian American Cultural Center in Whippany, N.J. Members donated baked goods and worked to cre- ate a successful event. During the fall months of 2017 branch members also focused on extensive planning and hard work for a Vyshyvanky event that was co- sponsored by the branch and the Monmouth County Library in Shrewsbury, N.J. Collaborative efforts by the Vyshyvanky team culminated in an exquisite exhibit at the library, which ran from De- cember 1, 2017, to the end of January 2018. The team included branch members Luba Kasian (and husband Vlodko), Natalia Pawlenko (and husband Yuri Mischenko), Halyna Lojko, and Nadia Ja- woriw. Supporting the endeavor were other mem- bers of Branch 98 and family who loaned their prized antique and modern dresses, blouses, belts, and gerdany to create a beautiful two-window dis- play in the main lobby of the library. The exhibit garnered much public notice; at the behest of the library, an article in The Monmouth Journal high- lighting the event was published in December. Branch 98 is grateful to Chief Librarian Kim Avagliano for her help in making the exhibit a won- derful success. Not to rest on its laurels, Branch 98 held its annual Christmas Party and fundraiser at the home of branch member Luba Bilowchtchuk in December 2017. Good food, friendship, caroling, and an array of beautiful gift baskets created by member Margaret Putykewycz rounded out the af- ternoon. We donated $500 to the Babusia fund from the proceeds of the event. Mrs. Kobryn is a recognized tradition bearer of Ukrainian embroi- dery and was awarded the title Master Pysanky Artist by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA). The NJSCA also awarded her the Folk Arts Apprenticeship Grant to study the history and
