30 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ-СЕРПЕНЬ 2017 from the duet “Gerdan,” were very warmly greet- ed by the audience and even engaged those at- tending to participate in a few singalongs. The evening ended with an announcement of the re- sults of the Convention Committee’s fundraising lottery. There were many happy winners of paint- ings, icons, embroidered objects, coral necklaces, and other accessories. Monday, May 29, 2017. Plenary Session. This was the final session of the XXXI Con- vention. WFUWO President Orysia Sushko warm- ly greeted the delegates, the newly elected Board, and the newly reelected President of the UNWLA. Acceptance of the Resolutions of the XXXI Convention Motions and Questions. Iryna Buczkowski, secretary of the National Board, read the proposed Resolutions of the Convention. It was resolved to incorporate the motto of the XXXI Convention, “Our Membership – Our Strength,” and all members were encouraged to distinguish past significant and memorable his- torical dates during this term of office from 2017 to 2020. Recommendations for the 2017–2020 term were included in the resolutions for the Standing Committees, Regional Councils, and Branches. Resolutions were accepted un- animously. Members actively participated in discus- sions about the proposed projects, especially those involving support and education of the younger generation, social welfare and aid to the needy in Ukraine and aging members who live in the United States, challenges arising from the use of technology and the internet to share infor- mation about the UNWLA, methods of attracting women from the fourth wave immigrants, and the modernization of Our Life . Closing of the XXXI Convention. President Marianna Zajac thanked everyone for their active participation in the XXXI Convention and ex- pressed her hope that UNWLA members had found the convention interesting, educational, and relevant. She especially thanked the Conven- tion Committee and the outgoing as well as newly elected UNWLA National Board. “We have and will continue to support Ukraine, but we must also focus on ourselves, on strengthening our or- ganization,” said President Zajac. Convention participants left for home having found the speakers and discussions as well as the sharing of ideas both interesting and im- portant. New friendships were made, and old ones were renewed. Women throughout the Unit- ed States will continue to be connected as mem- bers of the UNWLA family! _________________________________________ A Note on UNWLA Bylaws During the XXXI UNWLA Convention, Honorary UNWLA President and Revised Bylaws Chair Iryna Kurowyckyj discussed the function of the Bylaws Committee, members of which also included several attorneys. Mrs. Kurowyckyj underscored the fact that their work for over a period of two years was done on a pro bono basis. She introduced attorney Andrew Harasymiak who explained that the Revised By- laws complied with all relevant statutes of the State of New York where the UNWLA has been incorpo- rated. The committee followed all requisite procedures and provided adequate prior notice of the revi- sions to UNWLA members. After Mr. Harasymiak’s clear explanation of some issues of concern, the Re- vised Bylaws were voted on and passed by more than the required 2/3 majority vote. —Lydia Jachnycky, newly elected UNWLA First Vice President.
