Ms. Bilous’ video and report referenced the activities of the UN- WLA in Ukraine, especially in the realization of the “Aid to Ukrainian War Victims” program and a project partnership with “Patriot Defense.” The visual summary received a standing ovation. Dr. Marta Bohachevska Chomiak, spoke on behalf of third VP Sophia Hewryk. In her report, which was also accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Bohachevsky Chomiak spoke about the 50 th anniversary of the Kovaliv Fund. She also de- scribed UNWLA activities managed under our cultural programs: the Women’s Studies Lecture- ship at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv and the Shakespeare awards at the University of Zaporizzha. Lunch. Olya Czerkas moderated the luncheon on Sunday, May 28, 2017, and Christine Boyko (VP and Membership Chair) presented certificates of appreciation to the Organizational, Social Wel- fare, Scholarship, and Cultural Standing Commit- tees on the regional council and branch levels. It was also announced that three new Branches (136, 138, and 139) had been formed in the past three years. Plenary Session. This session was dedicated to the 50 th anniversary of the Scholarship Program of the UNWLA. Anna Krawczuk, UNWLA Honor- ary President and Chair of the Scholarship Pro- gram Committee, spoke about the great achieve- ments of this program over the past 50 years, not- ing that the successes were the result of a united effort. A video presentation included expressions of gratitude from scholarship recipients. A com- puter registry which the Scholarship Program ini- tiated in 1986 shows that there have been over 5,000 scholarship recipients. Ms. Krawczuk un- derscored that “our work was successful thanks to the members of the UNWLA and its sponsors and benefactors.” Filomena Procyk (current Director of St. Olha Institute, Prudentopolis, Brazil) presented greetings and thanks from all the scholarship re- cipients from Brazil. Oryna Sokulska, read a letter of gratitude on behalf of Oreslava Khomyk, Presi- dent of the UNWL of Ukraine, and presented awards to Honorary President Anna Krawczuk, Honorary Member Lidia Bilous, and President Marianna Zajac. Ms. Sokulska extolled the suc- cesses of “25 Years of the Scholarship Program in Ukraine.” Her PowerPoint presentation and video included expressions of gratitude from past indi- vidual recipients. Leadership and Motivation Presentation and Discussion. What should a leader know in order to lead her group to success? How do you motivate others to work toward a particular result and take responsibility? Under what cir- cumstances do members follow their leader? Do we need social media to disseminate information about the UNWLA? These and many other ques- tions were answered by organizers and modera- tors of the panel for “Leadership and Motivation” comprising Christine Boyko, VP and Membership Chair; Roksolana Misilo, VP and Public Relations Chair; Yulia Zimmerman, Director of Business Development and Ops, Petcube; and Dr. Adriana Helbig, Associate Dean from the University of Pittsburgh. Discussion. Discussions were held on topics of communication via social media and the internet. Attention was also given to the modernization of Our Life magazine and increasing membership. Special focus was also given to the question of how to interest and motivate younger Ukrainian women, those born in the United Stated as well as those in the most recent immigration from Ukraine, to join the ranks of the UNWLA. Dinner and Recognizing 50 Years of Schol- arship Activities of the UNWLA. Sunday, May 28, 2017, was a celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Scholarship Program of the UN- WLA. Natalie Santarsiero, president of Branch 136 and Mistress of Ceremonies, welcomed every- one to the evening event. Honorary President An- na Krawczuk, who currently chairs the Scholar- ship Committee, expressed her gratitude for all of the financial support which made it possible for the program to work successfully for the past 50 years. Former scholarship recipients sent greet- ings and words of gratitude via videos. Filomena Procyk, a past scholarship recipient and current Director of St. Olha Institute, Prudentopolis, Bra- zil, thanked the UNWLA for its support and aid. She assured those present that all scholarships awarded would continue to be used conscien- tiously for the educational needs of the Institute’s students. She presented the UNWLA with hand embroidered artwork made by the scholarship recipients from Brazil.
