“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 2016 WWW.UNWLA.ORG 5 «Наше Членство — Наша Сила» В листопаді ц.р. члени Конвенційного Комітету відбули чергові наради в готелі Grand Hyatt at Tampa Bay в Тампі, Флорида, де від- будеться XXXI Конвенція СУА в травні 2017 р. Голова Конвенційного Комітету Лідія Білоус хотіла, щоб всі члени Комітету побачили цей елеґантний, модерний готель на тропічній за- тоці та ознайомилися з усіма залями, де відбу- ватимуться наради конвенції. І хоч членкам Комітету з Маямі і Нейпeлс – це довша дорога, все ж вони прибули! Приємно підкреслити, що в Конвенційному Комітеті панує взаємна пова- га, відповідальність і дотримання всіх наміче- них обов ’ язків. А це передбачає великий успіх Конвенції. В листопаді в «Нашому Житті» було описано 17 Відділ СУА в Маямі, дві членки якого входять до Конвенційного Комітету. Тепер —коротко про 136-й Відділ СУА в Нейпелс, Фл., дві членки якого також активно працюють в Конвенційному Комітеті. Цей від- діл, заснований в 2014 році, став ініціятором в об’єднанні української громади міста Нейпелс та околиць. Щоб познайомитися з україн- ськими поселенцями між собою виникла тра- диція збиратися з друзями на українських пік- ніках. Люди приходять цілими сім ҆ ями та ще й запрошують нових друзів. Це не просто пікніки – це зустрічі, які перетворюються у справжні свята української культури, пісні та звичаїв! Найвизначнішими подіями 2016 р. ста- ло велелюдне святкування 25-ої річниці Неза- лежности України та громадський протест проти виступу у Нейпелс в складі оркестри Віденської Філармонії російського дириґента Валерія Ґерґієва, який відкрито підтримує огидну політику Путіна. Співпадіння, або ж перемога активістів цього протесту, але в бе- резні 2017 року Ґерґієв не виступатиме в Артіс- Нейплес! Натомість оркестрою славнозвісної Віденської Філармонії запрошений дириґувати Франц Велсер- Мост (Franz Welser Most ). Приїжджайте до нас на Флориду на ХХХІ-у Конвенцію СУА! Ми будемо радо Вас вітати і познайомимо не лише з теплотою на- шого штату, але й з душевною теплотою сою- зянок, які приготовляють для Вас чудову і дуже цікаву конвенцію. Tourist Destinations for XXXI Con- vention Delegates in Florida The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) holds its convention every three years in different parts of the United States of America which are home to UNWLA branches. The XXXI UNWLA Convention will take place over the Memorial Day weekend of 2017 in Tampa, Florida, which is located near St. Petersburg, the home base of UNWLA Branch 124. There are three other UNWLA branches in Florida: Branch 17 in Miami, Branch 56 in North Port, and Branch 136 in Naples. The XXXI Conven- tion Committee headed by Lidia Bilous includes members from all four Florida branches and has al- ready begun planning ways to make the XXXI Con- vention interesting, enlightening, and enjoyable for delegates and their families and friends. One part of this planning endeavor is to suggest leisure time activities and destinations that are appealing and interesting. Although the XXXI Convention will take place in Tampa, other areas of Florida are worthy of attention of the delegates, their families, and friends. For those interested in prolonging the Memorial Day weekend, before or after the XXXI Convention, there are a number of great exotic places to visit, including destinations with Ukrainian communities and UNWLA bran- ches. One such area is Miami, the home base of UNWLA Branch 17, the oldest UNWLA branch in Florida. The branch was established in 1952 in Mi- ami, a city that has long attracted Ukrainians from northern states who began to settle in this tropical paradise in 1949. These pioneers established the Ukrainian American Club and built the Ukrainian Catholic Church; in time a Ukrainian dancing group was organized, then a Ukrainian Seniors Club, then the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and UNWLA Branch 17. Today this Ukrainian commu- nity continues to thrive in southern Florida espe- cially with the influx of 4th wave Ukrainians into the region. Miami is a very attractive destination for tourists; it is, in fact, visited by 15 million tourists a year! Visitors are attracted not only to its white sand beaches, warm ocean waters, and gigantic banyan trees, but also to a variety of themed parks. Here one can find the Parrott Jungle, the Miami Zoo, the Fairchild Tropical Park, the Fruit and Spice Park, and the famous Everglades National Park. In the center of Miami is the Arsht Perfor- mance Center where visitors can enjoy the Miami Ballet, the Miami Opera, visiting orchestras, and
