“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ГРУДЕНЬ 2016 WWW.UNWLA.ORG 3 On November 6, 2016, the Music at the Ukrainian Institute (MATI) program presented the works of Women Composers from Ukraine. MATI’s artistic director, Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv, invited UNWLA partnership for this event, and our Executive Board eagerly agreed. Because Ukrainian women composers were not professionally recognized dur- ing the Soviet era, these composers’ works have all been created since Ukraine’s independence, with the earliest dated 1994. The featured performers were all young and accomplished professional col- leagues of Dr. Ivakhiv! Thank you to all who at- tended this very unique concert. Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science Visits Ukrainian Museum in NYC At the UNWLA’s invitation, Liliya Hrynevych, Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, visited the Ukrainian Museum on November 8, 2016. The rector of the Ukrainian Catholic Mu- seum of Lviv, Fr. Bohdan Prakh, also joined us for an exhibit tour, which was followed by a luncheon at the museum. We were afforded the opportunity to pose questions to both visitors, questions about the education system in Ukraine in general to Minister Hrynevych and more specific questions about UCU to Rector Prakh. The Minister expressed her admiration for the UNWLA’s work as well as her gratitude to the museum’s director for being the face of Ukraine in NYC. ____________ (L to R) Ukrainian Museum Director Maria Shust, UCU Rector Fr.
