30 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЖОВТЕНЬ 2015 OBITUARY ВІДІЙШЛИ У ВІЧНІСТЬ MIROSLAVA TERSHAKOVEC The Miami Ukrainian com- munity mourns the loss of its long-standing member and leader, Miroslava Tershako- vec, who went to her eternal rest on May 11, 2015. Funeral services were held May 15-17 with Stanfill Funeral Homes and Assumption of the Bless- ed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mi- ami. Burial was at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Miami. Miroslava was born in Lviv, Ukraine, and came to the United States as a displaced person following World War II. Though she was educated as a veterinarian in Ukraine, she worked in facto- ries, hospitals, and various other jobs to help sup- port her family. Miroslava married her husband and moved to Miami where the late Dr. George A. Tershakovec became one of the first faculty mem- bers of the then new University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. and Mrs. Tershakovec were pio- neers in the nascent Miami Ukrainian community as well and contributed greatly to Ukrainian American community life. Miroslava dedicated her life to her family and community, raising two sons, George and Andrew, whom she nurtured and helped to become physicians. She also helped raise her grandchildren, all the while contributing to her church community at the Assumption BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church in Miami and the Mi- ami Branch (17) of the Ukrainian National Wom- en’s League of America. An active member of UNWLA Branch 17, Miroslava held various officer positions, which included serving as President. She taught Ukrain- ian language lessons and helped coordinate countless programs, lunches, and anniversaries, which supported the aims of the UNWLA. Miro- slava was also active with the University Faculty Wives at the University of Miami. Miroslava was a tireless advocate of the UNWLA, never ceasing to encourage younger members of the community to join and always thinking of the future of the organization and our branch. The Tershakovec family loss is our loss. Miroslava will be sorely missed. Miroslava is survived by her sons George (Diana) and Andrew (Christina); granddaughters Stephanie and Alexandra; grandsons Paul and ІРИНА РАКУШ 19-го травня 2015 р. на 94-му році жит- тя відійшла у вічність наша дорога Союзянка Ірина Ракуш. Народилася 9-го березня 1921 р. в Тер- нополі на Україні. Прибула до Америки в 1949 р. і жила в Чікаґо. Ірина і її чоловік Микола на старші роки переїхали до Маямі на Флориді. Обоє активно включилися до громадського життя. Ірина була дуже активною членкою 17- го Відділу СУА в Маямі від самого початку проживання на Флориді. Під час святкування 40-ліття відділу в 1992 р. Ірина вела програму і розповіла про історію цього відділу. Разом з чоловіком Миколою помагала потребуючим дітям в Бразилії, Америці і на Україні. Під проводом Ірини відділ подарував дві стипендії учням в Гарвардському Універ- ситеті. Ірина була також активною громадян- кою в парафії Св. Успіння в Маямі і піддержу- вала український клюб, українських танцю- ристів і українських сеньйорів в Маямі. Тяжко і сумно було нам пращати від- дану Союзянку і приятельку, яка понад 60 років свого життя присвятила громадській праці і змістом життя якої була любов до України. Пані Ракуш у 2010-2011 роках очо- лювала 17-й Відділ СУА. 20 лютого 2011 року українська громада в Маямі урочисто відзна- чила 90-ліття з дня народження визначної союзянки Ірини Ракуш.
