She resides in Hunter and is actively involved in the life of the Ukrainian community of this beautiful town in the Catskill Mountains. “There are moments of immense stillness surrounding our church in winter,” writes the artist about her photograph of St. John the Baptist Church in Hunter. “I forget the ‘must do’ and ‘to do’ lists and imagine that I am hearing a beautiful old Christmas carol: I wonder as I wander out under the sky— How Jesus, the Savior, did come for to die. For poor, ornery people like you and like I. I wonder as I wander out under the sky.” Vera Gaidoch is a figurative painter working in various mediums.
