12 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, СІЧЕНЬ 2015 A FIRST FOR BRANCHES-AT-LARGE: PRESIDENTS CONNECT VIA TELECONFERENCE by Orysia Zinycz, Branches-at-Large Co-Liaison On December 2, 2014, a first occurred for UNWLA Branches-at-Large (BAL). There are now 18 Branches-at-Large scat- tered throughout 10 states. Since BAL do not have the luxury of meeting, discussing, and connecting like other branches during regional monthly meetings and since the UNWLA is becoming more and more comfortable with technology, Co- Liaison Orysia Zinycz suggested a teleconference with all 18 BAL presidents from various regions across the United States. With the assistance of BAL Committee members Marta Bazarko of Branch 78 in Wash- ington, D.C., and Yulia Zimmerman of Branch 107 in San Jose, CA, a teleconference was organized for December 2nd. Christina Boyko (Phoenix, AZ, Branch 3), Kathy Tice (Atlanta, GA. Branch 14), Inya Saldyt (Denver, CO, Branch 38), Stefa Wow- kowych (Rochester, NY, Branch 46), Ann-Marie Susla (North Port, FL, Branch 56), Marta Bazarko (Wahington, D.C., Branch 78), Olya Czerkas (St. Petersbug, FL, Branch 124), Natalia Santarsiero (Naples, FL, Branch 136), and UNWLA 1st Vice President Ulana Zinych took part. The teleconference was very successful. Af- ter a welcome and the introduction of participants, the attendees discussed a variety of topics and agreed on further steps to strengthen communica- tion among the Branches-at-Large as well as be- tween BAL and the UNWLA Executive Committee. Accolades were given for the 2014 Con- vention, and proposals were made for future con- ventions. It was suggested, for example, that first- time Convention participants as well as delegates and guests from BAL should have name tags of a different color. Also, since many convention at- tendees leave on Monday, a suggestion was made that all voting take place on Sunday. The participants discussed the develop- ment of a spreadsheet which would show what each BAL did in 2014 and their plans for 2015. This information will be used to connect all 18 BAL, as well as notify BAL about successful pro- grams. The spreadsheet will be updated periodi- cally and sent to all BAL. Ola Movchan-Novak, Chair for MAL, had prepared a spreadsheet of Members-at-Large (MAL) in each zip code. It was decided that this list would be sent to all Branches-at-Large in Branches-at-Large Committee Members Yulia Zimmerman and Marta Bazarko. order to enable them to contact prospective members in their areas and invite them to join their Branch. Teleconference participants also request- ed that the UNWLA history, abridged and recent- ly updated by BAL Co-Liaison Orysia Zinycz, be sent to all the Branches-at-Large to use as a re- source. Christina Boyko, UNWLA Vice President for Organizational Affairs, reminded everyone about the www.unwla.org website which can be used (a) to view the most current information about the organization, (b) to forward news about branch activities, and (c) to donate to the UNWLA through a Pay Pal account, which is an option that only recently became available. Finally, the attendees agreed to schedule a BAL meeting via teleconference at least every 3 months. After each meeting, a report will be sent to the UNWLA Executive Committee for consid- eration. The teleconference was very productive: many new ideas were presented and discussed. All attendees appeared to be pleased with the meeting, and we encourage all 18 BAL presidents to take an active part in the next teleconference. Thank you again to the 8 BAL representa- tives and Ulana Zinych who par- ticipated in our first teleconfer- ence. Orysia Zinycz and Olya Czerkas, Co-Liaisons for Branches-at- Large.
