_______________________________________________ VYSHYVANI VECHORNYTSI BY BRANCH 56 OF NORTH PORT, FL Flowering arbors, potted evergreens and embroidered hearts welcomed guests at St. Mary’s Parish Hall on Valentine’s Day of 2015 to cele- brate the annual Vyshyvani Vechornytsi , spon- sored by Branch 56 of North Port, Florida. This year’s theme, “Heart to Heart,” was a true reflec- tion of the evening. It evoked love both in spirit and deed—love for our beloved Ukraine and love for our brothers and sisters fighting for freedom and dignity. All the proceeds from the event went to the Ukrainian War Victims Fund whose na- tional chair is our own Lidia Bilous. Our President, Ann-Marie Susla, warmly welcomed guests, many of whom were dressed in beautiful embroidered attire. She also introduced honored guest and past editor of Our Life , Irene Chaban of New York, and other guests from St. Petersburg and Naples. Mistress of ceremonies, Lidiya Mychalowych, spoke eloquently about the spirit of giving and the importance of living with hope in our hearts for Ukraine’s brighter future. A heartfelt thank you goes to our local art- ist, Jaroslaw Stadnyk, who generously donated a very beautiful painting for the main raffle won by Anisa Mycak of New York. Thank you also to Olya Hron for donating a lovely vase decorated with Jaroslaw Stadnyk, who donated an oil painting for the raffle, with Ann-Marie Susla. L-R: Yara Litosch; Irena Chaban, past editor of Our Life ; and Iwanna Martynetz, honorary member of the UN- WLA. Trypillian patterns and to Ivanna Holovata for a special torte as the other raffle gifts. During the evening, guests dined on deli- cious homemade treats and danced the night away to the marvelous music of Vic and Walter Syzonenko. Sarasota’s own Natalia Bratash- Smeltz delighted the audience with her lovely renditions of Ukrainian songs. A special thanks to our president, Ann-Marie Susla, and our hats off to Olya Hron, chairperson for this event, for mak- ing the evening most enjoyable and a great suc- cess. Two kids went into their parents’ bathroom and noticed the weigh scale in the corner. “Whatever you do,” one youngster cautioned the other, “Don’t step on it!” “Why not?” asked the sibling. “Because every time mom does, she lets out an awful scream!” _______________________________
