Освіту здобувала у Зальцбурґу (Австрія), а після приїзду до Сполучених Штатів у 1949 році ─ в Коледжі Манор та Університеті штату Коннектікут. Згодом пані Зєлик навчалася під керівництвом відо- мого миcтця Михайла Мороза, який у свій час був учнем Олекси Новаківського. Пані Зєлик брала участь у багатьох персональних та групо- вих виставках у Сполучених Шта- тах. Вона належить до Асоціяції україн- ських миcтців Аме- рики та Асоціяції американських ми- cтців. Окрім того, пані Зєлик є член- кою 64-го відділу СУА в Ню Йорку і докладає зусиль до справи залучення нових союзянок, особливо до 64-го відділу. Нещодавно, ідучи за покликом свого серця, пані Зєлик склала над- звичайно щедру пожертву у Фонд Суспільної Опіки СУА для допо- моги пораненим воякам в Україні. Вона передала Фонду 100 тис. до- лярів у пам’ять про свого дорогого брата Олеся Гомотюка, який в молодому віці загинув у битві під Бродами, захищаючи рідну землю. У час, коли молоді українці знову гинуть на полі бою, пані Зєлик прагнула допомогти воякам з рід- ної України. Від щирого серця дякуємо Ірені Зєлик за її доброту та щед- рість, завдяки яким чимало мо- лодих українців зможуть жити більш повноцінним життям. СУА OUR COVER ARTIST Works by our cover artist, Irena Homotiuk Zielyk, have adorned the cover of Our Life many times in the past—most recently in the December issue of 2011, where she very artfully combined Ukrainian and American themes representing a home at Christmas. Ms. Zielyk was born in Husiatyn, in Western Ukraine. Her secondary education was completed in Salzburg, Austria. In 1949, with her parents she immigrated to the United States where she finished Manor College and went on to receive her degree in Art from the University of Connecticut. She later studied under the tutelage of well-known maestro Mychajlo Moroz, a one-time student of Oleksa Novakivskyj. Throughout her career, Mrs. Zielyk took part in many group and individual exhibitions in the United States. She is a member of the Association of Ukrainian Artists in America (OMUA) and the Association of Amer- ican Artists. Mrs. Zielyk is a member of UNWLA Branch 64 in New York. She treasures our organ- ization and encourages new membership, espe- cially for Branch 64. Mrs. Zielyk is a very humble person and asked this writer to limit her biography. I followed her wishes, but I must admit that it was difficult because her works are so beautiful and worthy of further de- tail. Recently Irena Zielyk, following her heart, made a very generous donation to the UNWLA Social Welfare Fund to be used for injured soldiers in Ukraine. She donated $100, 000 in loving memory of her beloved brother Oles’ Homotiuk, who a few days after passing the matriculation exam from Chor- tkivs’ka Gymnazija joined the service to protect his beloved Ukraine and was killed in the Battle of Brody. She saw this young man, four years her senior, leave home a healthy, happy youth and never to be heard from again. What sorrow! Mrs. Zielyk lovingly reminisced about her patriotic family all of whom felt that fighting for one's country is an ob- ligation. Of course, the war in Ukraine weighs especially heavy on her heart at this time. Young soldiers are again dying at the hands of Russia. She wants to help these young warriors, and through her generosity she will. We thank Irena Zielyk from the bottom of our hearts. Her kindness and generosity will help many a young person to live a fuller life. The UNWLA
