“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИСТОПАД 2014 WWW.UNWLA.ORG 15 “Committed, enthusiastic, passionate, ar- ticulate” were the adjectives which Dianna Der- hak, JD, MBA, Consultant of DNA International Consultancy and Breakthrough Coach for Indi- viduals and Teams, used to describe the members of the newly elected UNWLA National Board. As mentioned in the October issue, the annual UN- WLA National Board meeting was held on Sep- tember 19-21, 2014, at the UNA Estate at So- yuzivka in Kerhonkson, New York. Ms. Derhak was invited to lead Saturday’s group discussions, which aimed at focusing on the future mission of our organization and were meant to allow all Board members to freely express their views and visions. This group format, which was a complete- ly new approach for the UNWLA, resulted in all of the above and more. We believe that these moti- vational, goal-oriented discussions helped us un- derstand each other better and will enable us to work together, yet be effective independently. The day before this workshop, on Sep- tember 19, 2014, Standing Committee Chairs were asked to give their concrete plans for the coming year rather than to present reports, while the Regional Council Presidents and Co-Liaisons of Branches at Large (BAL) were asked to share their proposed steps for strengthening, develop- ing, and growing their Regional Councils and the BAL’s. After Mass on Sunday, each member of the Executive Committee offered her input and described her future projects after which neces- Workshop with Dianna Derhak during the UNWLA National Board meeting, September 20, 2014. sary administrative issues were discussed. A ques- tion-and-answer period followed, and the Nation- al Board meeting officially ended at 1 pm. The weekend meeting was a resounding success based on input received from many Board members and that, of course, of Ms. Derhak. We had the honor of welcoming Oreslava Khomyk, the President of Soyuz Ukrainok Ukrainy (SUU), to our gathering. I often state that UNWLA joins “generations and immigrations,” and I am proud that now our National Board reflects this inte- gration. The wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and opinions of the longer termed members, supple- mented by the innovative and fresh approaches and ideas of the newer members, are a sure for- mula for success! Congratulations and thank you to our Na- tional Board members for their very active and full participation as we set the path for our organ- ization’s future on the eve of its 90th anniversary! On this same Sunday, a wonderful, cele- bratory branch christening for UNWLA Branch 134 was held at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Whippany, NJ. I had the distinct pleasure of not only attending but also taking an active role in this very happy and moving event. Branch 134 chose Atena Pashko, a longtime friend and part- ner of the UNWLA, as its patroness. Oreslava Khomyk, President of SUU, gifted the Branch President, Chrystyna Rak-Brown, and myself a personal letter from the daughter of Atena Pashko as well as several books of her poetry. The mem- bers of Branch 134 are all young, professional women who can and, I am confident, will reach new heights of accomplishment for our joint UNWLA efforts! Welcome and congratulations to President Rak-Brown and each one of her Branch’s members!
