Thirdly, for the coming fall season, the UM is planning an exhibition of Naïve Art of the 20 th century. Included will be the works of such talents as Nikifor of Krynytsia, Maria Prymachen - ko, Hryhorij Ksiondz, Kateryna Bilokur and ot h- ers. This exhibition is originating at the St. Sophia Preserve in Kyiv, and will be enriched in New York with items from our own collection. For 2015 and 2016 we are working on completely new exhibitions from largely unknown or rarely shown collections. We are also refining and expanding our programs of films, workshops on folk arts, lectures on new literature as well as new art and fashion. Follow us on our website: http://www.ukrainianmuseum.org . We will be happy to forward you the details of our programs. It is our sincere hope that every branch of this key foundational organization has mai n- tained a 100% membership in the Ukrainian M u- seum. And if not, join us again! For the Board of Trustees, Renata Holod , President February 17, 2014 “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Malanka Event at the Ukrainian Museum in NYC by Olena Kebalo On January 11 th, 2014, the Young Members at the Ukrainian Museum of New York City (YM@UM) hosted a “ Snidanok at Tiffany’s” Malanka event—a Ukrainian New Year’s p arty inspired by the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s . The Ukrainian Museum was decorated to resemble Tiffany’s with the store’s signature color, a distinctive shade of turquoise, dominant in the decorations, food, photo o p- portunities, and party favors. Enclosed in a glass display case were two genuine Tiffany’s items, a money clip and a heart-shaped necklace, both to be raffled off by the end of the evening. The movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s ran silently throughout the evening, projected on to the wall of the museum’s center room, while guests enjoyed the contemporary and 1960 s music DJ’ed by Nick Marc. Many Tiffany- themed details added to the evening’s ambiance. Two large martini glasses filled with Tiffany’s boxes flanked a phot o station where a life-size cutout of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly stood against a backdrop of Tiffany’s interior. Guests were invited to pose with Audrey He p- burn for a memorable photograph enhanced by various props — long strands of pearls, cigarette holders, tiaras, and a pink boa — to make their photo unique. Photographer Bohdan Hrytsiv took many lovely photos at this station. Veselka catering delighted guests with their elegant Ukrainian-influenced hors d’oeuvres , such as deviled eggs with beets. Greg Hywel created exquisite Tiffany’s -inspired desserts — petit fours decorated as Tiffany’s boxes; turquoise, white, an d black cake pops; turquoise macar oons, mini cupcakes, and chocolate drops in the event’s three theme colors. The YM@UM thanks all of those who participated in this su c- cessful event to benefit the Ukrain i- an Museum. Special thanks to the Plast Kurin “Chornomoski Khvyli” for their help; to various restaurants an d establishments who are neig h- bors to the Ukrainian Museum for their donations; and especially to Anya and Brian Tomko for their generous support.
