“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ТРАВЕНЬ 201 3 WWW. UNWLA.ORG 25 The evening, created and directed by Virlana Tkacz, will feature a score by electronic music composer Alla Zagaykevych from Kyiv, tr a- ditional spring and summer ritual songs from Ukraine and a raucous swamp party by Toronto’s Lemon Bucket Orkestra. Fire. Water. Night. is a highly visual show and completely accessible to all audiences. Ms. Zagaykevych is a composer who combines traditional ritual music from Polissia with contemporary multidisciplinary projects such as installations and performances. A member of the Drevo Folk Ensemble since 1986, Alla studi ed at the National Music Conservatory in Kyiv and at Institute IRCAM in Paris. Since the mid - 1990s she has been a leading proponent of electronic music in Ukraine, a curator on many international projects and often appears at international festivals. In 20 04 she was awarded the Dovzhenko National Award for the music for the film Mamay , Ukraine’s nominee for an Academy Award. She created the music for Yara Arts Group’s Raven (2011) and Dream Bridge (2012). The press wrote: “S he is a sound artist, a transform er and creator of sounds extraordinary.” The movement is created by Shigeko Suga and Katja Kolcio. Projections are by Mikhail Shraga and Volodymyr Klyuzko, who were nom i- nated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for their work on Yara’s Raven . The ligh ts are d e- signed by Jeff Nash and costumes are by Keiko Obremski and Alexandra Baczynskyj. Featured Yara artists in the production include: Jenny Leona, Romana Soutus and Jeremy Tardy with Alexandra Baczynskyj, Yarko Dobriansky, Sta - nislav Golopatiuk, Tamar Ilana, Kewpie, J M o- lière, Matt Nasser, Masha Pruss, TJ Sclafani and Shigeko Suga. Musicians and singers include: Mark Marczyk, Tangi Ropars, Jaash Singh, Julia Dobner - Pereira, Brian Dolphin, and Samantha Posey. Yara Arts Group is a resident company of the world renowned La MaMa Experimental Th e- atre, where it has created 27 original theater pie c- es based on material rooted in the cultures of East Europe, Central Asia, Siberia, Mongolia, China and Japan. Yara has created 14 theater pieces with Ukrainian mater ial. Yara's first show, In the Light , was about Les Kurbas and was performed in Kyiv during the week that Ukraine declared its independence in 1991. The workshop for Yara’s show in 2004, Koliada: Twelve Dishes , took place in Kyiv during the Orange Revoluti on. This winter Yara created Midwinter Night based on Hutsul Koliada, a Baroque folk vertep and raucous Goat songs. In April Yara curated a special session of KinofestNYC on Video Poetry which was the fi f- teenth major event Yara has presented at The Ukrainian Museum, since the new building opened in 2005. Yara Arts Group will perform Fire. Water. Night. June 7 to 16 in the Ellen Stewart Theater , 66 East Fourth Street (in Manhattan's East Vi l- lage). The sho w performs Thursday - Saturday at 7:30 PM, plus m atinee Sun at 2:30PM.
