Another fundraising event was also held in 1994 for the Building Fund for the Museum as well. It raised more than $13,000. Benefits held for Our Life magazine i n- cl uded $10,000 for the Press Fund and $1,800 for the Children’s Fund from the sale of a children’s book. Many literary events took place in the ea r- ly 2000s. The first one was an interesting prese n- tation of Lysty Tak Dovho Idut , a collection of the correspondence of Lesya Ukrainka, compiled by author Svitlana Kocherha and published by the UNWLA. Another important even t honored a u- thors Dr. Wira Wowk ( pseudonym for Vira Se - lian ska from Rio de Janeiro ) and Marta Tarnaw - sky of Philadelphia. In 2003 several exhibits were presented in UECC about the artistic creations of Soyuzianky from all generations and immigr a- tions. Also in conjunction with the Senior Citizens Association, the Regional Council prepared and distributed packages to needy seniors in and around the Philadelphia area. It also collected $10,000 for the humanitarian needs of Ukraine during the days of Ukraine’s independence and the Orange Revo lution. It also supports the e n- dowment for Women’s Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University. Three more museum - quality exh ibits were held at the UECC in conjunction with the Heritage Studies Center at Manor College — in pysanky , gerdany and embroidery fr om 2010 to 2012. There were a numb er of exciting deve l- opments in the past year. The Council pub lished its first cookbook, Sharing Our Best , with 296 pages of recipes donated by the UNWLA me m- bers. More than 500 copies were sold. Another highlight was an ex cursion to the Pearl S. Buck House at Perkasie, Pennsylv ania, to view one of our branche s ' three - time award - winning Ukrain i- an Christmas room exhibits. In recent years, newer imm igrants have been joining the UNWLA again . Some are for m- ing their own bra nches, and others prefer to b e- come part of existing groups. The Philadelphia Regional Council will be celebrating its 75 th anniversary on June 9, 2013, at the Ukrainian Educatio nal and Cultural Center with a round table discussion, “Seventy - Five Years — What Follo ws?” A jubilee luncheon and musical interlude will follow. A commemorative book, which will be available at the banquet, is also being published about the activities of the Regional Council from 1938 to 2013.
