No matter how you add it up, it is a long time for any organization and wor thy of a celebration. Realizing their anniversary was upon them, UNWLA Branch 30 members started preparing months ago. The celebration, which took place on Sunday, March 25, 2012, b e- gan with a religious ceremony conducted by V. Rev. Archpriest and Pastor Kiril Angelov at St. M i- chael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers, NY . Members of Branch 30, dressed in Ukrainian e m- broidery, participated with other parishioners du r- ing the morning’s 10:00 a .m. High Mass. After the services, Father Kiril ceremoniously blessed the members of Branch 30 and christened the branch in the name of patroness Lidia Krushelnytsky. Following Mass, a luncheon was held at the Ukrainian Youth Center in Yonkers, NY, with gu ests and representatives of various organiz a- tions. After opening remarks by Branch president Marta Burachok, Father Kiril led everyone in a prayer, which was followed by the UNWLA prayer and hymn. The Svitlychka , sponsored by Branch 30 and directed by Zhan a Huralska, performed a number of songs and poems to the delight of all the guests. The students , ranging in age from 3 to 4 were very well prepared and further astounded the audience with the enactment of the play The Mi t- ten . Members of Branch 30 honored Mrs. Huralska with flowers and a certificate of appreciation for her dedication to teaching for the past 12 years . In addition, fina n- c ial assistance has been given toward the “Ba - busia” project, flood - victim relief fund, Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund, donation of clothing to orphanages in Kolomiya, Ukraine , and sponso r- ship of the university Student Scholarship Pr o- gram. This year, a major contribution was made to t he Ukrainian Museum in New Yor k , thanks to funds raised by Christmas caroling. Additional efforts to raise funds come from such initiatives as Christmas and Easter bazaars and coffee and bake sales after Sunday Liturgy at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
