Photo by Olha Bilinsky The UNWLA Regional Council located in the Greater Philadelphia Area is just one of the nine such councils in the Ukrainian National Women’ s League of America, Inc., the largest and oldest Ukrain ian women’ s organization in the United States. Founded in 1938, the Philadelphia Regional Council will be celebrating its 75 th ann i- versa ry on June 5, 2013. Seven of the 14 branches of the Philade l- phia Regional Council hold meetings at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center (UECC) in Jenkintown, PA. The other branches are located in C hester, PA, Bethlehem, PA, Tre n- ton, NJ, Wilmington , DE, and Columbia and Ba l- timore area in Maryland. On May 6, the Philadelphia Regional Council of the UNWLA reviewed its accomplis h- ments for the past year and elected new officers at its annual meeting held at UECC. Honored guest at the meeting was Ma - ri anna Zajac, UNWLA President, who spoke about (among other things) the $100,000 endowment being established by the UNWLA for Wom en’ s/ Gender Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic Unive r- sity in Lviv, Ukraine. The following members were elected to the Philadelphia Regional Council: Iryna Bucz - kow ski (president), Myroslawa Nowakiwsky - Volo shyn (1 st vice - president), Marta Pelensky (2 nd vice - president and corresponding secretary), Oxana Farion (secretary), Oksana Smolynets (treasurer), Olha Mykhaylyuk (e ducation), Maria Kovalenko (hospitality), Nadia Luchanko (public relations), all members of Branch 10 (events/ programs), Oksana Woroch (culture/museum), Oxana Farion (organizational committee), Dr. Daria Lissy (scholarship programs), Danna Yudy - na (social welfare), Petrusia Sawchak (press), D a- ria F edak/ Christina Pluta and Oksana Mandy bur (auditing committee), and Halyna Keller (me m- ber - at - large).
